We had this today but in a 2 ball so less odds
My 7 handicap mate took 3 attempts to get out
Me on my 22 index out in 1 to 3 feet and drained the par putt

A little bit of understanding there when you study how the area has been raked.

Unfortunately we were playing in a competition so had to go by the book.
There was so little sand in the bunker I'm not sure how it was raked had much effect. It was more like hard pan with a millimetre or two of dust on top.

So a lot of marking, playing and then trying to re-create the lie.

Indeed. In the end we decided that the best course of action was to put two tee pegs equidistant about a foot either side of where the balls were so we could replace them in the correct spot after recreating the lie. (Since the lie was pretty much hard as nails, recreating it wasn't that difficult). There were comments along the lines of "I'm sure there was a bit more dust under my ball" as we re-raked the surfaceSo a lot of marking, playing and then trying to re-create the lie.

I can remember doing this as a junior, well with two balls, the backspin you could get with the first one was amazing and the second could take someone’s head off
