I don't know why, but I tipped Stuart Cink to win the open on day one. When it came to the end, I was hoping that I would be wrong. I really wanted Tom Watson to do the job, but I fear that the four rounds, all the practise etc. was too much for him in the end. In my book he was still the winner.

Out of all the players who moved up and had a shot at the title Cink was the one man I didnt want to win. A big , huge anti-climax for me.

When he holed that birdie putt on 18 I was gutted , Boy was I willing TW on to get that par on the last.

I'm totally frutrated with this years Open , all the Brits who had great chances to win , the Europeans who so nearly made it , Els and Goosen pushing hard and the ultimate winner could have been Tom Watson of all people. Then Stuart Cink creeps up on the blind side and takes it.....flat just totally flat for me

but you won't forget it.

and to be fair to Cink (though I was willing Watson's putt in too), he has been there or thereabouts for some time - almost always playing solid unspectacular golf and earning well out of it.
