UK Courses that are no more

I apologise for the terse reply, but I am peed off with the amount of claptrap that is written on here, usually by the same respondants who obviously have so little else to do in life! - This Forum is meant to be a serious Golf discussion page, not an imitation twitter
Where does it say that this is a "serious Golf discussion page"? I thought it was a forum... which means anything can be posted (within the rules).

A possible suggestion could be to preface your posts wth "serious replies please" but also maybe expand in the OP. I thought exactly the same thing as Andy, to be honest. It would have been nice to know why you wanted to know.

I can imagine your frustration though if you've set an alert for responses, and you read about cats and dogs. :D

Lammerwood in Herts. Went down about 3 years ago.

I believe it is being bought by the Beckhams to turn into a home, if they can re-route the foot paths.

Played a course in Norwich about three years ago and we were told it was about to close to become a housing estate. Not sure if it did. Royal Norwich and Norfolk or something like that. Have also heard that Magnolia Park in Oxford is in danger. Not sure if it is true.

The original Ascot Heath golf course inside the confines of the racecourse is no more. Got reduced to 9 holes with the construction of the new grandstand and moving of the straight mile (straight through the middle of our old clubhouse) and then we left in 2005 for our new purpose built course across the road

Couldn't agree more that golf is a serious topic for discussion.

Kings Park 9-hole Muni (Southside of Glasgow)

Suited me as my garden backed onto it....I have an (overgrown) 9 holer all to myself.....ok so I had the odd Buckfast fuelled, blade weilding ned to deal with, buts that's what yer 4-iron is for isnt it ???

Shillinglee Park - nine-holer 20 minutes from Horsham that had some of the most ridiculously tight holes in world golf closed down, I don't know, maybe 10- 15 years ago.

Also, Moatlands in Kent which then became Kent National, shut up shop 2 or 3 years ago.

There was also a Royal Isle of Wight which closed down in the 1960s I believe so may just be within your 50 years

Its sad driving past and seeing a golf course all overgrown and unloved

I didn't know Boxmoor had closed.

An interesting read, especially the comments section.

I never played there, and always thought the holes by the road looked flipping dangerous for slicers.

Claptrap? Quite right chap. But surely you understand the irony of your post? Your question is possibly the dullest, most pointless, worthless slice of claptrap that the forum has seen in many a moon?

And little to do in life? You must have achieved just about everything worthwhile that there is to do on our fascinating planet if this biblically boring quandry has found it's way to the top of your to-do list!!!!!!!

Yours in sport,

Snelly.

I have a book entitled 'Homes of British Ice Hockey' which might sound as boring as sin to you or the next man on the street but in all fairness it brought back many great memories and even encouraged me to get in touch with some old friends. Imagine that the OP is researching for a book and one or two of your old haunts will be included. Would such a book be of interest to you or would you rather get a box of novelty tees for your birthday next year. Don't give the guy a hard time.

What I find funniest is the fact you are so critical to the thread in general, yet you still post in it. If you don't like the thread, don't contribute. Simple.

The OP is asking a valid question.

Why smartarsed dickheads feel the need to come along and input nothing valid to the post god only knows.

Belford Golf Club shut a couple of years back but thankfully it is up and running again.

Holy Island had a 9 holer I believe pre war but it has never re appeared.I am surprised there has not been more casualties over the last couple of years.
