Tyrrells wood mini meet

I was pin high on the first with a three wood Anthony. I also hit the biggest drive of the day down the par 5 on the back nine. It is amazing how far a ball can bounce when it hits a main road.:whistle:

Great day, very hot, hilly course, and perhaps not the best day to carry. Thanks for arranging it Smiffy, and would be happy to play there again. £30 a head was a bargain. My fourball all had their moments and Smiffy played well for 17 holes, and had three birdies. Chrisd hits a good ball for someone so old, and Smiffy's mate Norman is mustard with his chipper. :whistle:

Liked the quirky little mirrors they have at the 1st and 3rd tees so you can see if the fairway is clear! :D Its so nice that they provide a special mat to guide those challenged by reversing mirrors! :whistle:
 
Had a great day. 3 birdies (1st, 4th and 10th) were a bonus for me. Problem was, a few one pointers on the card undid the good work. Stood on the 18th tee with 35 points, absolutely knackered...gave it my all but blocked my tee shot out to the right towards some trees. Norman said he thought it had bounced back out again, but when we got down there I was flush up against a trunk with no shot really. Chipped out sideways, came up just short of the green with my 9 iron, chipped but missed the putt so blob.
But I was pleased generally with my game, bearing in mind how little I have played recently (only my 3rd game since the H4H day at Blackmoor last October). But so unfit, it's untrue. I was absolutely knackered at the end of the round.
Great day though lads, and thanks all for making the effort to attend.

OLD? How very dare you ? Normans chipper is an utter disgrace - he wouldn't believe that they are banned on the forum. I think the ball going down the road probably ended up in a Polish lorry drivers mug of tea and is, as I type, half way across Europe!

Smiffy, Norman and Richard were top notch to play with and thanks to Smiffy for sorting the meet out, to be fair he played pretty good considering he has only played 3 games since HfH - at that rate, if he never played again I think he could turn pro!

Wookie wins all the meets, I suggest we not tell him where the next one is. Swingitlikehogan was in the last group and came in so far behind us in the first group that we had to shave twice, I'm sure a DMD would help!

On a personal note, I hit the driver pretty well and was pin high on the first and birdied the 10th didn't putt well but a good start to a week where I'm playing 5 rounds.

Nice to meet some new faces and reacquaint with some old ones. If you havnt done a forum meet but are thinking about it, get stuck in. They are great fun, great guys and the golf is pretty decent too
 
Cheers gents. I really enjoyed it. The course was pretty good, a bit quirky and playing hard and fast just as I like it. The greens were ok, but looked like they should have been quicker than they were.

Look forward to the next one:thup:
 
Cracking day out. Good pick Smiffy and a bargain for £30 - only moan would be the hard and fast to land on but slow to putt greens. They still rolled true though so shouldnt complain and would definitely go back.

Pleased with my 37 points playing off 18 after losing two balls and blobbing the first - just need to try and do the same at our place with a card in my hand more often although at least a third of my tee shots yesterday would have landed me in serious trouble at The Army. Also no holes there where I can miss the green by 10 yards left from 100 yards and roll down a bank to 3 foot and a birdie:D

Cheers to Hugh, Preet and Paul for the company for what somehow turned into a near on 5 hour round. I guess we let those ladies through early on and looked for at least one ball every hole.

Guess next time will be Cooden - see you all then. Thanks for organising Rob.

I completely topped my tee shot on the first and it ended up not more thanj 10yds short right of green; chipped to about 4ft and holed the putt for a nice 1st hole birdie. Rest of time was a bit of a mess. Thanks to all for a fine day and to Smiffy for organising - was sorry I had to dash off but had to pick my Mrs up from work. Ah well - can't have all play and no work,

Mind you as we said - the mat looked a pretty rubbish winter tee - ratehr favouring a hook - until it was pointed out to me thatthat was where to stand to look in the mirror.

We didn't have to let the ladies pair through - we chose to let them through :) just as they were about to catch us up so they wouldn't have to wait at all. I think it was a very gentlemanly and appropriate thing for us to do. Mind you - they soon completely disappeared from sight so they must have been playing very briskly.

I'm only yanking your chain.... it was v gentlemanly and obviously the right thing to do :) Our ladies get a completely unfair reputation for playing slow.... they are actually very quick players perhaps too quick... they seem to all worry about holding up the blokes and rush their shots, In fact we are the worst offenders and everyone in the club know who they are..... is anything done??:mad:

I think it might have been because they were "saving" them for a decent cut today. There is an Open competition on and I wouldn't mind better that they were out with the mowers and rollers first thing this morning.
That's why I couldn't get my original choice of days (today) as it clashed.
The course looked very dry in places, they could do with a week of rain up there.
Semi was wispier than I remember it and the fairways were much harder than normal.

It did look dry - and fairways starting to crack in places. btw - your photo back down the second towards the clubhouse - I look knackered after climbing that first hill - and only 16 hills to go :)

Hmm, they didnt catch us up at any point and we were the group in front! hang your head in shame sir.
