Think I might be being a bit thick, but how do they manage two tee starts? At the US open they've got guys teeing off on 1 and 10 (I assume at the same time). Surely those doing 10-18 first will run into guys teeing off at one when they get there, unless I'm missing something obvious. Anyone know how it works?

It would add a bit of interest if players could knock out the person in front by catching up and hitting ahead of them (or even hitting them, for the combatively minded  ). A bit like rowing in a bumps race.

Easy when you think about it. Players tee off on both tees from, say, 7.30 am. If it takes each set of players around 2½ hours to play their first 9 then, as long as everyone has teed off within the 2½ hours, the 1st & 10th tees are clear when the players have finished their first 9.

Pros play so slowly now this is normally not a problem. A couple of years ago I photographed a Seniors' Pro Am & the players teeing off the 10th played so quickly that they arrived on the 1st tee before everyone teeing off at 1 had finished. That led to an enforced refreshments break.
