Have just been to the range for a lesson with the pro. Things had been progressing quite well and had moved quickly from my first lesson when I could hardly swing the club to discussing the finer points of my ball strike. Have not picked up a club in the last week due to work and so went and hit a few balls before the lessons. Virtually thinned or topped each ball. Spent the lesson trying to get my swing back in shape. Im tending not to flex my right leg so I dont turn properly and lift my body. Had the lesson and then hit another 60 balls going through the drills. Definate improvement in the ball strike during the drills but not quite as good when hitting the ball with proper stance and swing. Oh well, there is always tomorrow and at least I can see how it is done properly at the Masters.

Changes take time to be intergrated into the swing and you really must keep hitting balls to repeat the correct action and train the muscles to react properly. Don't however get in the habit of just hitting balls thinking quantitiy will help. You have to be practicing the right things and developing the right methods.

I'd go to the range tomorrow if I was you and hit some balls to make sure you have understood and remembered what you were shown today. I'd then leave it and hit some more balls midweek to retain the muscle memory and then go out and try it on a course next weekend.

Thanks for the advice. I agree fully. Im intending to go tomorrow and hit some balls, the majority of which using the technique regime given to me by the Pro. Im due to play in 36 hole works event on the 22nd so I feel I need to get out on the course on Tuesday or Wednesday next week to get the feel of course management. Im hoping my new irons will arrive on Monday but if not, I really feel I need to get onto the cousrse so will play my old irons.

Whisky, did your pro get you placing a ball under your right heel? Mine did. There is no way you can keep your right leg stiff then.

(it's easier to practice this if you cut a ball in half)

He got me to lift my right heel whilst swinging. I guess the same idea. It is working in practice but played 9 holes this evening on the par 3 course and I was regressing. Just got to keep working on it.
