Two horses slaughtered already!

What can I say.
Two horses have already been slaughtered at Aintree, and that's before the Grand National.
Why can't they stop this.
Horses are being killed in the pursuit of humans making money, can this be right.
I'm not suggesting they ban the sport, but why can't they make it less dangerous?
The jumps are too big and there are far too many runners in the Grand National, but perhaps that just adds to the excitement/enjoyment for some people.
Are there odds on how many horses will die tomorrow?
I just can't watch it, but maybe that's because I'm an animal lover ............ who knows?
What are your thoughts and are you placing a bet or two?

Slime.

P.S. I'm not judging, just expressing my opinion.

So...fox hunting?

I don't watch or have much interest in horse racing but there is nothing better as a spectacle than watching The National. I really enjoy the excitement of it all and dare I say it the falls and love having a flutter and watching the kids jump and shout in front of the telly for their horse.

However, the deaths are a terrible side affect but as I know very little about horse racing I have to leave it in the hands of the authorities. I only hope they take the correct decisions to reduce these deaths but I'd hate to lose the mass start, jockeying for position, the excitement of the jumps and the sheer stamina to stay the course and come in first.... Great Theatre :)

Over 200 riders have been killed in the Isle of Man TT races over it's 98 year history yet it still takes place every year with thousands travelling over to watch it, and millions more watching it on TV.
Sobering thought.

They can calculate the dangers for themselves and then make a rational decision, based on their knowledge, as to whether or not they compete and, indeed, how they compete. Horses don't have those abilities and choices.

So...fox hunting?

What's your point, I don't understand your argument, sorry.

People die driving cars everyday.......

Correct, and your point is?

Animals are trained by humans.
I find it amusing when humans talk on behalf of the animals.

Oh he just loves his chocolate says the old dear to the dog she is slowly killing.
You don't hear the police dog handler saying 'he just loves attacking an armed criminal, even though he may get shot'.

I used to be a big fan of horse racing and still have the odd punt on the big races but I must admit i'm starting to object to the many horse deaths their are in the sport.I can see this race being stopped if the deaths continue but where will that leave national hunt racing? do you ban that as well because horses die and flat racing doesent escape either as horses have to be put down when they slip and break a leg. These beautifull horses are bred for one thing and one thing only and that's winning and if they cant do that there there no good to the people concerned.I do enjoy the spectacle of the Grand National and will proberly have a small bet but if the many deaths continue I think i'll stop watching it for good.

For me the use of the word 'slaughtered' to describe the death of these two horses is both factually wrong and in truth a bit silly as it will instantly distract from any reasoned point you make. it doesn't even seem like the nature of the race themselves had much in the way of contributing to their deaths. One had a heart attack (I believe) - and don't many of us out of the blue?, and the other broke a shoulder after stumbling through a fence - and again don't many of us suffer the same or similar injuries - often self-inflicted?

many horses who arent good enough to compete are re homed as either pets or stable hands.

there are also many places for ex racehorses to live out a very happy retirement.

No argument, just wanted to hear your thoughts on that?

What about golf courses though, surely they'd be better as nature reserves without us golfers mooching about and cutting the grass to within an inch of its life?

There are some things which exist for entertainment, be it brutal, barbaric or a bit mental...you should watch some UFC

... :D

About ready for the off.... I can hear the vet loading the shotgun :mmm:

Don't suppose any of the "the horses don't enjoy it" brigade happened to see the jockey less horse running in front of the pack quite happily taking on at least two fences before running off the track.

Great race and it looks like they may have got the safety changes correct

Won a few quid on Cappa Bleu in the each way market but nothing to get excited about
