Two for one schemes - good or bad for golf?

I think you'll find that County cards have been around a lot, lot longer than any type of 2fore1 voucher.
They were considered a "bonus" for being a member of a reciprocating club and were in great demand at one time.
2fore1 vouchers give all the benefits of county cards to non club members. What's wrong with that???? It opened up golf to the masses. Got to be a good idea

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with 2-4-1 vouchers as such, but, could they be playing a part in decreasing membership numbers and decreased revenues for clubs as a whole? :D

Not sure that I agree with the view that it has to be good in the long run. What clubs want is members to provide long term stable income. What these vouchers do is encourage nomadic golfing. Would like to know how many people have ditched their membership because they can pay and play cheaper with a half price voucher.

That's the point I'm trying to make, (badly, I know :o) about 2-4-1 vs County Cards.

Me for one!!
How many times have we had a discussion on here with regard the "North/South divide?"
Most "half decent" golf courses down South are charging you over a grand to be a member together with yearly subscription rates of many hundreds, if not into four figures.
You can join a reasonable golf club up North for at least half the price, sometimes even a quarter.
It's so cheap in Scotland that a lot of players hold full membership to two courses!
I was looking at DCB's course. Entry for the Mens Senior Open is £8.00!! Eight Bloody quid! That would get you two pints of beer at a decent club down here.

Maybe so but a pint of beer afterwards is £850 plus a signing in fee ;)

Golf is a business, a competitive business. Around 75% of regular golfers (EGU figures) are not members of clubs. The more progressive clubs who can tap into this market and create a product that satisfies both members and visitors alike will thrive. Charging silly money to put off the casual golfer will be unsustainable in the long term for most golf clubs.
