Am playing in one of these on Sunday. A recent thread asked what clubs you would take, and until this morning, I was of the same mind to my answer in the other thread - a 2 hybrid and a 7 iron. My reasoning is that the hybrid will be fine off the tee's and fairways on long par 4's and par 5's, and the 7 iron can be used pretty much anywhere from 160 yds in.

The problem is, I've started to think about it too much now - should I change my mind and take a 7 iron and a wedge of some sort instead? I can hit my 7 reasonably well to about 160, but will never make a par 5 in 3, I also don't know how well I can play it out of a bunker to a green - (not worried about fairway bunkers).

Who'd go hybrid/ 7? and who'd go 7/Wedge? If I take the wedge, do I take a pitching wedge (can hit 130) or a gap wedge (hit 110)?

decisions..........

didn't mean to post in out of bounds - didn't realize I hadn't gone back to the lounge......

I'd take a hybrid and a 7. If you can't make the greens to putt in 2 you're stuffed. And as you say, the 7 can play all the way, even to a chip putt from just off the edge of the green. I can't get out of bunkers anyway so I always play side or back in them.

I think it's a good combo, I actually did a bit of practicing playing bunker shots with a 7 iron, it was a lot harder but it can be done, just open it up as much as you can and have a go, at the end of the day it's meant to be played for fun so if it doesn't work out then oh well :)

I am inclined to agree that you need a higher club in there. 9 iron can be used to chip and for bunkers in an emergency. 5 iron would be my oither option. Good luck mate.

I'd take my 5 wood and 8 iron.
I can hit the 5 210 yds from the tee and its my most consistent wood, I can also get a decent yardage and hit it well from the fairway. And the 8 iron I normally use around the greens with a little putting stroke anyway.

Went with the hybrid and a 7 iron in the end (not the driver and pitching wedge some were going with). Only two greenside bunkers which I got onto the green first time. Blobbed the the first two holes...... and one more later but managed to snaffle 29 points, which I thought was pretty good under the circumstances - would have had more if I hadn't putted like a lemon.
