For anyone interested in the talk about Donald Trump building a course up in Aberdeen, I flew over today and can confirm that construction has began.

I took a few pictures, the files are a bit big so feel free to look at them here www.planepilot.co.uk

If you find them interesting leave me a comment there and I'll take some more pics on a regular basis so you can see the development.

I'll pop some more up there!

And I'm afraid I'm not Donald - or on his pay cheques!

Just fly in the local area, and have an interest in golf!

Still don't see why Scotland needs a rich mans golfing resort when they have some of the best courses in the world
I couldn’t agree with you more Parmo.
The only good thing that this could bring about is that the corporate
fat cats will be lured away from the other good courses and maybe the prices will fall to a realistic level. I know it will not happen, but one can dream :)

The course will be bowing a hooly 9 months of the year. Do you think tommy tanks will pay loadsa £$£$£$ to have their comb overs blown off?
there was 8 of them queuing to tee off at Nairn where it pretty much pished down all day last sunday, I got chatting to them, they are/were playing 8 of the top courses in Scotland in 9 days. From what I could make out it wasn't their first time over and won't be their last. All normal working guys too.

Why wouldn't they Andy? They do it at all the other Links, you telling me it disny blow at all the others?!

I am not understanding Parmo's comments...what does the fact Scotland has some cracking courses already mean they can't have another one? :D

In all seriousness I genuinely believe that Trump is building this course as a future Open venue. Trump is egotistic and this could well be the jewel in his golfing crown if the R&A hand him an Open championship on his course. The oldest and best Major would be a huge coup.

Aberdeen also has the infrastructure in place. It is a wealthy city due to oil. There is decent accommodation as well as good rail and road links not to mention an International Airport as well.

Its the sort of venture that Mr Trump could well pull off and I like the idea that he's chosen Scotland as a place where he feels that he can add to his very impressive golf course portfolio. I can see a very very impressive golf course being built.

I doubt the Open will be hosted there, it has not history and little connection to joe average. That said so does Celtic manor which is pretty bland and boring by their own members admittance.

I do think that the course will provide the backdrop for his VERY expensive real estate.
It will therefore have to be in top nick due to the wealthy people using it and will have to compare to his other worldwide clubs.
It will offer Aberdeen as much as Dornoch is earning from Skibo Castle - some locals working there and thereby putting a small amount of money into the local businesses.
Golfers will, I would suggest, fly into the airport, be transported by Trump transport to the Trump hotel, spend all the time in the complex and fly back out.
My thought on the course is that hot weather up here creates 'har'- a sea fog, that rolls into the coastline and this could be a problem for big summer competitions.
