Trump International Links - Our man 's review

Interesting stuff, maybe I'll wait a couple of years before I play it and give myself time to save up.

Monty was presumably paid to attend the opening, so his praise is effectively sponsored.

I'm not sure that leaving the controversy to one side, as the review does, is really an acceptable argument either.

If a golfing development requires such extensive environmental and social upheaval as this one, it is tainted.

And people wonder why golf is saddled with a reputation as being arrogant and elitist. I would argue against that tag 99/100 times as I loved this game, but in this case I think it is sadly true.

I'm sure the course is stunning, but for £100m to build, and £150 odd green fees, there'd be something seriously wrong if it wasn't.

Being nosey...Did Trump pay your expenses.

Monty was a bit 'overloud' in his praise, I think Lawrie played a blinder by missing the 'do'. No Soapy Salmond or Shir Sean either.

The 'top table' looked a bit thin.

Mike, youve missed a trick here! Your diary could have looked like this:

Monday: With Lee Westwood playing Karsten lakes.
Tuesday: 18 around Donald's new place.
Wednesday: Have to make do with Kingsbarns or similar.
Thursday & Friday: Muchos vino at the Scottish Open.

If you need someone that could handle this sot of week in future............

Fergus seems quite impressed despite being hard to please and quite critical of new courses. Sounds pretty impressive maybe the debate about its GW top 100 ranking can start again! :) :)

I would love to play it - looks amazing - but probably in 2 or 3 years once it's had time to bed in and the weather is better!

So for my 40th next year it looks like either 3 days at the home of golf; or 3 days in the Highlands at Castle Stuart, Nairn and Royal Dornoch - decisions decisions!!!

Im booking up for the end of August and cant wait.

Looks fantastic and considering i can easily spend £150 on a night on the lash i see it as a better investment!

I don't believe there was as much actual upheaval as noise about the upheaval.

And I know of an existing facility that cost about the same to purchase and charges over £350 to play. So while £150 ain't cheap, it's not horrendously over the odds either.

Y'all better get in there quick then because it is entirely possible that "the Great Dunes of Scotland" may yet have the final say on this golf course.

I've seen photos of tees completely covered in sand. Perhaps it is after all not possible to stabilise this dune. When all said and done, it is supposed to move.

Very good review.
I would love to play the course, however i dont think thats ever going to happen.
£150 quid doesnt sound too bad for a once in a lifetime experience.
Im sure in the future it could hold an Open.
Money talks and Trump has got enough of that.

You mean for OUR birthday?............I'd be up for a 3 day Scottish jaunt next year.........

Sounds like a cracking course. All we need now is for GM to weave thier magic and get a deal on a forum meet ;)

Look at what happened to Castle Stuart, within 2 years of us having a meet there they get the Scotish Open.

Fergus only lives in Banchory and even given he drives his Imprezza like a car thief his petrol will amount to about £20 - I wont ask the Don to pay for that!

In all seriousness If I'd have sent someone up from London I'd have had to pay for that - they didn't offer

Cant speak for Monty or the like

But as someone - think it was Dodger said - no pro has ever been somewhere, especially to an opening, and said. "This course is distinctly average!"

I've lost count of the number of times someone at a club quotes at us that Peter Alliss once visited and called it "a fantastic layout, a real gem." You cant really tell them he says that everywhere he goes as he doesn't want to be rude

That looks like a Jezz Ellwood type schedule...

to be fair I did look at flying from somewhere like East Mids up to Aberdeen after PYB day but couldnt make it work so sent Fergus

Next time your struggling for a Scottish course review I'm sure I would be only too happy to help out!

People jump up and down about the fact that there were environmental issues - of course there were, you get that on any building site even in big cities, and new golf courses are legally required under planning law to have an Environmental Impact Assessments, so of cours eenvironmental impacts will be identfiied. That's what we have the planning law for. And any taxpayer (?) has the right to say no to wind farms - many of them do, so it's hardly fair to moan about him for that. Maga local employment, beautiful golf course that looks in keeping with the surroundings.

I'm not sure about kicking people out of their houses though (and i am sure i am not getting a straight story from the tabloids here). Don't know what the outcome of that was. Compulsory purchase orders might work for projects of national significance (eg nuclear power stations to keep the lights on, say), but there are enough examples at the Olympics to show that those don't work either.

Anyway, aprt from that, beautuful looking golf course

Anyone recommend any similar hidden gems of similar ilk that might be a bit cheaper ?
