Some of the bunkers around my local have hardly any sand in, and because of this, I play a normal sand shot but the blade bounces off the hard sand and into the back of the ball which leads to the ball being sent flying over the green. How do you play these shots?

Same as normal but with a square club, and not quite as much speed.

The trouble is figuring out how much sand is under the ball before you hit it.

Region 3 is right, don't open up the club face or the bounce will cause the club just skid off and blade the ball, Squaring the club face will allow the head to dig in a bit

Also use a wedge with lesser bounce angle, a sw has got about 14 degrees which is probably too much
