I think SammeBee asks why as you cannot use your iPhone as a GPS in competition so why do you need it on your trolley?

Yes just for practice! Not good enough for comps yet as I'm a relative newcommer to the game!

That's allowed under the R&A rules because it's a dedicated DMD.
Smartphones aren't allowed because they can report weather information, gradient, direction etc etc...
Unless, of course, there is a local rule banning all DMD / GPS devices in competitions.

As I understand it a local rule, cannot overrule the RNA on this matter?
Distance measuring devices, although strictly speaking are illegal, they can be allowed by local ruling.
The iPhones weather info, compass etc Apps cannot be deleted, therefore it's illegal in 'stipulated rounds'.
The Motocaddy phone holder fits my iphone fine. Have you tried the Powercaddy one.
