Trilby Tour 2010 Experiences

I'm playing in the Trilby tour regional qualifying next wednesday at Murrayshall and wondered:

- is anyone else on here playing?

- anyone else played in the other TT events? What are your thoughts on the experience?

Was at Bearwood Lakes caddying for Harpo Marx (Smiffy).

It was well organised, good fun, the course was well prepared, good food and everyone was in good spirits - play somewhere near your h/cap and you'll do just fine.

I played at the London Club this year and throughly enjoyed it. It was well organised and we were looked after very well.

As James has posted above, I played at the Bearwood Lakes qualifier last Monday (12th) and had a great time. Whilst I felt that the organisation leading up to the event could have been handled a little better, the actual day was one of the best events I have ever attended and was superb from start to finish.
It was very nerve wracking stepping onto the first tee with quite a few people watching and having your name announced by the starter. In fact, I don't think I have ever been so nervous on the first tee in my life. I hit probably my worse drive of the day in my hurry to get away from the TV cameras, but once down on the fairway my nerves calmed a bit and I settled down somewhat. Managed to scrape a bogie 5 after the drive and secure a valuable point!
The only thing I didn't appreciate about the day was the early tee time I had drawn. I was off at 7.45 and bearing in mind you have to be there to register at least an hour before your start time it meant I had to be at the club by 6.45am. By the time you have registered, swapped your clubs and other bits and pieces from your everyday golf bag into the Callaway bag that they give you, it leaves you very little time to warm up as you then have to be back to the first tee at least 20 minutes before your allocated time. I wandered down to the practice ground to try to get some kind of swing going but even on the walk down there I was conscious that I didn't have very long. The guys that were teeing off later in the day certainly get the better deal as they can tip up at the club at a respectable time, have breakfast at their leisure and then spend as much time as they want practice putting etc. before the event starts. Having said that, the practice ground at Bearwood is quite a trek from the first tee so that didn't help!
It costs £250.00 to enter the Trilby Tour which, on the face of it, sounds an awful lot of money. But when you look at everything you get included in the day, I think it's worth it. You get a round of golf on a cracking course, that would normally cost £90.00 without a member. A complete outfit from the Trilby Tour collection, which to be fair, isn't bad quality at all. A Callaway "tour" bag to keep (it's not a real tour bag, just a cheaper smaller version that I wouldn't normally use and have given it to one of my stepsons) breakfast, a very good lunch, a few "freebies" (sleeve of balls and mini bottle of JD) on the day...plus the chance to meet up with some really nice guys and the opportunity to qualify for another round at the Buckinghamshire.
Would I do it again? Yes, I think I would. When I entered last year for this years event, I was playing "reasonable" golf, sadly by the time this event came round my game had deserted me a little. But I still enjoyed it.
The only thing I would have preferred would have been a later tee time....


You will enjoy the day. You will be nervous on the first tee. Guaranteed. But once you are out on the course your nerves will go. Playing off 3/4's is tough for us "higher" handcappers (I had to play off 9) and the back tees at Bearwood Lakes certainly made the course play trickier. I have played it many times off the whites, and not really struggled. But off the blacks, holes that had not really given me any problems in the past suddenly brought their own complications to the fore.
The two guys I played with, (and their caddies), were great company. All in all, a day to remember. Just wish I had played a little better.

I played on the Irish leg of the tour at Druids Glen at the end of May.

The course set-up was amazing and it gave a real sense of what it would be like to be playing on tour, especially the greens which were like putting on ice.

Naturally I was a little nervous on the first tee under the gaze of the sky sports cameras, but once that was out of the way the rest of the day was pretty special....howver I regret to say that my opening drive will not feature on the highlights reel.

My one criticism would be the early tee times meant reduced sleeping time, a rushed breakfast and a rushed trip to the range but these is only a minor criticism as all in all it was a great day and I will definitely be playing again next year.

The pics on the TT web site look excellent. Just hope i can hold it together next wednesday.

I'm off at 7.50am!! Early start but they do have almost 100 guys going out until 13.30 so i suppose it was the luck of the draw.

Course closed today due to rain - that's the last 2 Wednesdays...here's hoping it's not a hat-trick.

Just heard that the Trilby Tour event at Murrayshall on Wednesday is cancelled. What happened? It was fully booked.

Where did you hear that John? I was up there tonight, all the advertising banners, etc are out and there was no talk of cancellation?

Got an email from Caddyhire today Marko saying the event was cancelled. Now whether that means they're not needing the umpteen caddies who'd signed up or whether it's actually cancelled I'm not sure. Their website makes no mention of cancellation though.

Definately not cancelled John. Even saw Mr Hunt himself walking about tonight and the course is fully kitted out with the sponsorship banners around the tee's.

Don't know about the caddy situation. We've been getting emails from the Pro asking for members to volunteer as caddies so assume there are/were some needed?

Person I was caddying for scored 30. Just didn't have any joy on the greens.
