Traditions Golf Club

The course was taken over by a friend of mine as General Manager in the spring and they have a plan for the course. Many of the bunkers are being renovated which is why they are GUR and new pumps are being put in around the 5th, 6th and 7th holes near the canal. I was there last Friday and although it was still wet, it was a lot better than previous years. Give them another 12-18 months and this will be a fine track well worth a visit as the intention is for it to be a top play-and-play.

I like the layout, so will be keen to see it come along. will watch this space..

Shame it was as bad as a few on here suggested. Hope the new general manager and the investment can make a difference as it could be a good course. Still prefer Hoebridge but we need as many accessible courses as possible to attract people to the game regularly

I did like the layout, and it could be a great looking course, but does need a lot of work to get there. Perhaps if reviews pick up in 18 months time we'll give it another shot.

Already had the voucher before I looked it up so I really was hoping that I could give a good review here, despite the warnings, sadly not the case.

Arrived about 9am to find 3 cars in the car park, presumably belonging to the three staff members in the clubhouse. Checking in was simple, and although an hour early we were told we could go out as soon as we were ready, but to be aware that some of the fairways were a little wet...... Having taken two hours to get there, breakfast was needed first, the sausage baps were already made up, and then re-heated but have to say it was surprisingly tasty (a plus point). We wondered over to the first tee, well, where the markers indicated where the first tee was. It looked like a tee box, I think, but couldn't really differentiate the grass (what there was of it) from the rough/ fairway around the tee. First drives off and we were both ankle deep in bog, somewhere down the first, essentially the shape of things to come. It became quickly apparent that no matter we hit, we should walk on the paths for as much as possible as the ground was swimming. There are two halves to the course, one side was pretty much below water, the other fared better, but overall, the condition of the course was poor. The tees weren't mown, were no different to the fairways, which had grass, but nowhere near enough - very much resembled this View attachment 17889. Many of the bunkers were GUR with free drops. Most of this we could deal with, it's winter golf and we knew it wouldn't be in best condition, but the thing that got me most was the amount of dog cr@p all over the place, on the 18th my ball was literally sitting in the middle of three piles of the stuff. There were dog walkers all over the place, and it seemed fairly obvious that the residents of Pyrford were far elevated above cleaning up after their animals.

It was a shame really, I actually liked the layout of the course, some of the holes were quite challenging, especially having not played there before, and if it was in better condition on in mid summer, could be a good looking track. it's going to take them a lot of work, time and investment to bring it up to scratch, but since there was only one other player on the course, that might be a while. Despite nabbing 41 points with a blob, I'm very unlikely to go back and try it again.:(

A fair review I think. It's such a shame, it could be a brilliant course!

The plan is to take out some of the trees on the tight early holes like 4 and 6. The latter is just impossible off the back tees to that small green. Then the improved bunkering will give them a chance to do shaping on the fairways and the rough.

I can understand the 6th.. it can b very tight... upto the white tees it seems alright.. the green is very tight thanks to the water on the left and back. Taking the tree off would make the green wider and give more landing space

Not so sure of the 4th. I cant rememeber is it SI 1? The tree only comes into play on the drive. You need to hit it straight and atleast 180y to get to the fairway. Once you are on the fairway, it is a doddle as there is nothing in play (except that if you overshoot by 30y past the green, you might kill someone on the 5th tee).

I think you can live with the trees as long as they can fix the plumbing and make it playable. The trees are just cosmetic changes but it needs more than that.
