Aye.... well spotted... 'av bin 'ear 40 years but ar's a Lambton Lad be birth, marra.

My wife has a relative who lives in Reeth.
We were watching with interest when they came through Mucker then the sods switched to adverts and the VIP's and picked it up again at Grinton.

Well done Yorkshire, what a great show.
Watched the highlights on itv4 and they showed a fair bit in Reeth but not the main green. It was packed in Reeth and all the way through Grinton and right up to Cote de Grinton moor :D

I'm umming and arring as to whether or not to head to Sheffield's delightful East End to see the tour fly past this afternoon. As a city Sheffield has failed utterly to grasp the mechanics of making it visitor-friendly. Road closures across the city with no additional services advertised to compensate for the loss of accessibility.

I think Leeds, York and Harrogate did just fine and the towns and villages in between should be commended on making it the spectacle it is sure to be!

I had a great day, a nice walk over Blackstone Edge and then watched the Tour by the reservoir, there were great crowds especially as it wasn't the easiest place to get to

His own fault
Leaning on another cyclist to try and make a gap was just asking for trouble.
No sympathy for Cavendish but plenty for the Aussie he took out.
Bully-Boy tactics.

Sprinting is a contact sport. If you watch it Gerrans and Cav are both trying to get on Sagans wheel, so not really a case of going for a gap that wasn't there, more like two guys both trying to be on the same bit of tarmac. I'm not sticking up for Cav as on this occasion it was his fault, he was coming from behind and trying to get the wheel, but equally, and quite rightly, gerrans wasn't giving up his position without a fight! Sad for Cav, but it won't be the last bunch sprint pile up over the next 3 weeks!

Took the train into Huddersfield town centre and watched the Tour on the ring road.
Absolutely fantastic day. The crows were huge, but not one hint of trouble. Everyone very friendly and in good humour. Even the police cars and support vehicles got a big cheer.
Yorkshire should be really proud of its organisation of this event. They really "pushed the boat out" and the people responded massively. The success of this must have really been beyond the Tours wildest expectations.
I have to say I had my doubts but I am glad I was proved wrong. It was absolutely brilliant.

Recently enjoyed a few days walking in Swaledale and Wensledale and was stunned to see the efforts the small villages had made on Le Tour route.
Painted yellow bikes, banners and flowers are everywhere, it should be quite a spectacle.
It seems like every third field has been turned into camp sites as nothing moves on the route for 12 hours.
What's the yellow bike tradition all about?

Anyone going?
If so you should have a ball.
Beers good too.

The yellow bikes are a fashion accessory to match the yellow jersey, which I seem to remember stemmed from the Tour's sponsorship by a French newspaper in the very early days. That paper bore a yellow masthead (like The Sun and The Mirror have red mastheads), so they adopted a yellow jersey.

The final 2km of Stage 3 passes within 200m of Golf Monthly HQ on the banks of the Thames, so I may pop my head out the window!

In 2007 it passed about 1/4 of a mile from where I lived so HID and I walked down to see what was a true spectacle.

As we wandered down from home a lad peddled out of a driveway on a very expensive looking bike in all the gear. I remarked to HID that perhaps he should be in the race or was it a case of "all the gear no idea"! then I found out afterwards it was Jamie Staff. World Champion and Olympic gold medallist who's parents lived in the village!!

Doh!!
