Tour de France

Can't get to our club on Sunday. Can't get anywhere to be honest :)
I am no cyclist, but I am going. The atmosphere should be fantastic and fair play, the Yorkshire people have really got behind it.

used to love watching the tour day after day on telly during the summer holidays, but one year it seemed like every other day the yellow jersey was expelled from the race for drugs and i just gave up watching.

i have a mild interest still, but it lost its magic for me that year.

If family were about I'd maybe make an effort to walk over & watch the procession out of Leeds & I did consider cycling into Harewood House (barely a mile from my Club) after playing golf on the Sat morning but the Festival of Cycling is sold out after they had to halve the cost of a day ticket to £18 ..... so I think I'll just stay clear:mad:

Will be watching as usual.
I'm hoping Mark Cavendish and Chris Froome
Win a few stages.
I feel Sagan will win the green jersey and its
Between contador and Froome overall.

I was in Canterbury a few years ago when the tour was started in Kent. It's a long wait for 30 seconds of action, but I wouldn't have missed it for sure.

Is this not the first time when a charge has been levied on any Tour event ?

Good old Yorkshire, nearly as savvy as the Scots!

I am planning to hopefully park near the M62 junction for Ripponden and follow the Pennine way across Blackstone edge to catch the tour at a sharp turn onto the A58.

By heck lad, 'tut Dales luked rite bonny tu' day on't TV, din't yer think??

Little wonder they stayed clear of murky Lanks & Mancs. ;)

Forest Of Bowland.... but 'twas a Closed shop ...... until the Right to Roam you struggled to get anywhere in there, didn't you?? .... only the equivalent of one Dale anyways :smirk:
Lakes would have been a challenge but not sure you could have closed the whole of the Lakes roads for 2 days..... people would never have got in so doubt you'd have got the kind of turn out as happened today. The road restrictions around the area have been unbelievable..... punishing some businesses heavily whilst others have had a heyday... no compensation I believe.
Still was very, very impressive viewing from the Choppers.

Drove up to Reeth this morning, what a cracking day out and an unbelievable atmosphere, there was a few thousand in the village but you could see way up grinton moor and the thousands upon thousands that had lined the route, it's a shame you could still hear the 5 helicopters as I would loved the have heard the roar from the crowds when the peloton went up the climb :D

Yes Glyn, the Reeth area is very special.... must have looked very good today. My friend from Penrith chose that area for watching

My wife has a relative who lives in Reeth.
We were watching with interest when they came through Mucker then the sods switched to adverts and the VIP's and picked it up again at Grinton.

Well done Yorkshire, what a great show.
