Totally Hacked Off With Life

Hey Homer

as has been said, it sounds very much like sciatica, I had this about 6 years ago and had slipped a disc which needed surgery to sort out

Hope yours isnt as bad

Hopefully the lovely Rebecca can get you sorted, but after you get back, you MUST do some regular exercises to strengthen your core muscles,

I feel your pain, I have been there

Heal quickly and well my friend

Fragger

Does sound like Sciatica. Anti-inflams until a proper diagnosis !Hope it's 'only' that! Could be in for an uncomfortable night or 3! At least until take the pin out of the doll!

Surprised an NHS guy isn't taking the 'see a Doctor first' route (my recommendation btw). Don't you trust them?

Not sure whether an injury sustained within a qualifying round can exempt from the 0.1. Was the wife actually talking about Golf btw?

Bad luck Homer, it's gutting to get golf injuries. I have two nasty tears in the ligaments in the back of my leg from jogging back to get a dropped head cover.

I did not rest it properly with having to drive a manual car to work, it must have been giving me trouble now for four months. Be smarter than me and get back to it soon.

Sorry to hear this Homer, as the others have said meds, rest and go see a specialist ASAP.

Hope you have a speedy recovery...

That is very unfortunate and I hope you are back playing as soon as possible. Does sound very much like sciatica from what you describe. Get it sorted properly before you start swinging the club again and get yourself checked over properly too. Bad luck :(

To add insult to injury they've pinged me 0.1 for my NR and I'm up to 13.2

Sympathy all round - and your handicap committee should, in respect of 0.1 increases, give "sympathetic consideration" to players who have had to discontinue play for any reasonable cause.

I have recently popped a rib out of my back and it hurts but a bit of Physio has helped me severely although it was severe pain. Try taking a Codine and Bruphoen mix you get it from Boots

Interesting point. Can someone with CONGU knowledge clarify that please. I'd prefer to go up due to my own incompetence rather than just being unable to go the distance (wife says the two are much the same thing these days)

I can tell you catagorically that if you retire injured that your club should not add .1 to your handicap. I had this at the end of last year before my hip was replaced and I spoke to the EGU expert and my club had to knock .1 off my 11.5 to return me to 11.4 whichI have played on all winter.

I hope that your injury is not as bad as you fear HJS

Absolutely gutted for you Martin.
Horrendously bad considering the season is almost starting.

Don't try and fight this on your own mate. You need medical help.

Hope you get yourself sorted pal and back on the course in very quick time. Take care.

Homer, the term "Sciatica" can cover a multitude of sins,BUT on a positive note i have gone from almost unable to walk,to full mobility in several days.
Rest,Ibuprofen and Voltarol can work miracles.Your back has undoubtedly gone in to spasm, seriously debilitating, but not usually permanent.
Hope things improve asap mate.

Just mark your card with a big " INJURED " on it and underline it and you shouldn't go up.

Interesting. I retired in the second round of our club championship last year because my knee locked up. I wrote injured in big letters on the card, it even says retired injured on HDID but I still went up 0.1

Homer there's more to life than golf you know!

Take full recovery whether that's 5 days or weeks and get yourself in tip top condition.

Chin up fella.

This ....... Add get it checked by an osteo or chiro. I've had "sciatica" on and off for the last year. Usually get it if I kneel too much doing aikido, kicks in when I stand up. Hobble for a minute or two but stretching gets rid. Has only kicked in on the golf course on a couple of occasions, again stretching got me through. Touch wood it hasn't been back for a few months. It I do two 15 minute stretching routines 3 times a week.

as i posted earlier Hawkeye, your club definitely shouldn't have the card put into the system. When it happened to me i spoke to Chris Hicks of the EGU after reading the CONGU handbook and the relevent paragraph which says:

CONGU 2008 - 2011handbook on page 84 Dec2(c) e .. that "sympathetic consideration should be given to players who have had to discontinue play for any cause considered to be reasonable by the organising Committee"

i had my .1 rescinded after pointing this out

Sciatica is a clinical presentation of pain much like HJS described, and has a number of causes.

I would advise seeing a GP or a doctor who works in sports medicine rather than getting a direct referral to a physio, and I wouldn't go near a chiropractor at all (unless they were restricting themselves to conventional physio), no matter how fit they looked.
