My round of golf lasted four shots this morning. Felt a twinge on my swing on the opening tee shot. The body sub-consciously tried to pull out and I skied it right OB. Reloaded and felt the same twinge and same result - nil points on the 1st.

Did some stretches and flexed it on the tee as the others played out the hole and hit the drive well without any reaction. OK it was obviously just a twinge and we can get back the lost points. Hit my 2nd shot and I've never felt a rush of pain like it. Tears in my eyes unable to straighten up and a line of pain shooting from the bottom of the right side, through the right buttock and down towards the back on the right knee.

That was it. One of the guys retrieved the shot, we shook hands and I hobbled, limped and virtually dragged myself off. It is perhaps a 400 yard walk back to the clubhouse from where I was and it must have taken nearly 15 minutes to get back. I've been knocking back the anti-inflammatories and chucking ice packs on it but I can't find a comfy spot to sit or stand. Its a constant nagging pain.

Definitely won't be hitting balls for a while. Gutted. I wouldn't mind but I stretched as I normally do, hit 30 or so balls before ging out and everything felt fine and was going well. To add insult to injury they've pinged me 0.1 for my NR and I'm up to 13.2

It better clear up before Woburn!!!

Funnily enough I'd had some twinges a few weeks back after hitting balls and took loads of anti-inflammatories and it stopped bothering me. I'm wondering if I did some damage then and just aggravated it today. I'll speak to the Head of Physio at work on Monday and see if one of her team can have a look and maybe book an appointment with Bracknell Chiropracters again(http://www.bracknellclinic.co.uk/about_us.html). On the bright side I might get the lovely Rebecca again. Hoping it'll calm down overnight but might wander to a walk in centre tomorrow if not

check with your handicap sec as not 100 percent ,but i thought if you pulled out through injury and n/r it was just classed as void

I had twinges which were sciatica from April onwards last year and finally popped two discs in late July. I had an operation and am right as rain (touch wood) now. Yours sounds like sciatica and when I had it I used to only play after taking Ibuprofen.

Interesting point. Can someone with CONGU knowledge clarify that please. I'd prefer to go up due to my own incompetence rather than just being unable to go the distance (wife says the two are much the same thing these days)

Mate of mine had to retire injured during a round last year and didn't go up 0.1, so I'd query your increase with your handicap secretary, Homer.
