nipped dowm the range with the lad after the weigh in and only managed 3 crap slices with a wedge before i was in agony again with my back. first set of pain killers i had worked brilliantly managed a round with them on 31/12/07 but had to stop then as they interfeared with my kidney function (had a transplant 2003) new ones are crap. obviously a badly torn muscle how long before i can expect to play again? :(

I feel for you mate. Having spent 4.5 years trying to get my knee sorted, I know what it's like.

Pain killers are rarely the way forward. Having injured just about every bit of me over time (as well as having access to top professional healthcare advice), pm me with what happened and what your symptoms are and where and I'll see if I can give you something a bit more practical than pills that will get you back as soon as we can. No promises, but worth a shot. Sometimes you just need someone else to buck you up.

you could try voltarol emugel in the short run- available OTT in gel form or a stronger pill form from your friendly doctor. It's a steroid based (diclofenac) anti-inflamatory so not to be taken likely and strongly suggest discussion with pharmacist or doctor concerning contra-indication with other problems prior to use.

If that doesn't help it may be more serious.

Good luck mate

Time is the best healer Tim. Give yourself 2 months rest from playing and then work up gradually in time for the season starting.

that's probably the best advice, Rest and a good warm up before you start to it balls with any kind of conviction will get you back for the start of the season.
If you use pain killers sooner rather than later it will get worse until you are forced into a season long rest period then you will be kicking your self for forcing the issue.
get well soon

Pain is there to tell you that there is a problem. I went to an osteopath and after much creaking and pulling of bones out of sockets it sorted me out, though if you have torn muscle you'll have to wait a while. Weather's rubbish anyway at the moment so best to sit it out until Spring :)

if you are after a quick fix to let you get a round in try those deep heat patches you see advertised on tv, never tried them personally but if they do wht is says on the advert should let you play a round in comfort. Although I don't neccesarily reccomend this as it will make the injury worse in the long run. Think rest is your best option personally but if you're like me you'll want to be back playin ASAP.

I've tried heat patches but they didn't do much for me as they don't adhere very well unless you shave the area. Not a good idea as a quick fix to get a round in.
I tend to use Tiger Balm or Woodlock, which I got from a Chinese therapy place where I also tried acupuncture (doubtful) and massage - useful.
However, it's time Tim, no substitute for it, with gentle stretching to stop the muscles locking up.
