Goswick had the Edinburgh and East of Scotland Alliance playing their final match yesterday in conditions that can only be described 'blowing a hurricane'.
The men played from tees making the course play around 6600 yards and the winner shot a level par 72 to win by 4 shots!!
In my book it is one hell of a knock!!
I spoke to one of the lads who finished 3rd and he said he played out his boots for 77 hitting driver onto the middle of the 1st green (392 yards) then striped driver, driver at 3rd which still left him 60 yards to the green (437 yards),14th,which normally plays driver, short iron was playing driver, driver 9 iron for many (393 yards) !!!
Here's the days report.
Despite an early morning snow flurry around Edinburgh, the Edinburgh and East Alliance headed down the A1 to Goswick Golf Club, Northumberland (south of Berwick on Tweed) to hold their last outing of the regular season.
Seventy-six members braved the testing, windy conditions and competed for the Thorburn Cup which went to Terry Mathieson, pictured, the Dunbar assistant professional, with a level par score of 72.
That put him four shots ahead of the next gross score of 76 by Andrew Oldcorn of King's Acre. Third place scratch prize was shared with 77s by Daniel Wood - Trainee at Eyemouth - and Derek Fish of Glenbervie.
Top handicap prize went to Duncan Stewart of Craigielaw. He had a net 75 off seven. Second place on net 76 was shared by Neil Bain of Haddington off and Andrew McLennan of Deer Park off seven.
Trainee prize went to Ryan Buckley of Craigielaw with a gross 80
Senior prize was won by James Rankeillor of Baberton with a net 78 off nine.
The Handicap Order of Merit for the season was concluded and despite earning no points this week Justin White of Harrison held onto his commanding lead to secure top spot with 133.5pt.
Second place went to Stuart Brown of Glencorse with 111pt. George Wither (Lothianburn) finished third with 109.5pt.
The Scratch Order of Merit will be decided at the EESGA Championships at Gullane Nos 2 and 3 in two weeks. Going into that event the OOM top five are:

2 Chris Morris (Kingsknowe) 544.5
