Looking for a bit of advice on gapping at the top end of the bag.

I've currently got a 10.5 Degree M2 Driver, 15Deg Ping G 3 wood and a couple of hybrids at 19 and 22 degrees.

I hit the driver fairly well, usually 230-240.

I just don't get on with the 3 wood at all off the deck (and sometimes off the tee), so normally end up hitting the 3 hybrid as the second shot on par 5's and long par fours but that normally only goes about 185-190, so normally am short on the long par fours. Bad shots are either tops or the travel about 150yards at knee height!

I was toying with the idea of a 5 wood, but with the loft being close the hybrid, i'm not sure i'm going to gain much, as they are close in loft - so in my eyes it feels like a straight swap.

I did look at a High Lofted 3 wood, but is the going to be any easier than what i;ve got?

I'm not that sold on the ping wood anyway, and it was a prize so wouldn't lose anything in £ terms with a change

What would you do to solve this at the top of the bag?

I'd have a lesson. Hybrids are pretty easy to hit if you use the correct technique. It may be a simple fault that a pro will spot quickly.

I have exactly the same issue.

I've had it for years and not done anything about it.

The solution is simple really.

I'm off to see my pro, we are going to look at technique, distance and accuracy.

Without buying a range of clubs to try the only solution is to see a professional. They have the kit and the knowledge.

I'm pretty sure woods are easier to hit than hybrids, for most but not everyone.

I'm pretty sure I will end up with a 5 wood in the bag, just not sure how the clubs below that down to the 5 iron will look.

HL 3 wood or 4 wood
Simple.
Easier to launch, easier to hit the middle and you really don't lose much distance..
That 2° really does make a difference of the deck.

I'm having lessons, pro suggested a 5 wood, but i was worried about the loft being the same as the hybrid.

I couldnt find a HL 3 wood to try, but seemed to be hitting the 5 Wood ok.

a 5 wood should be 18 deg and will have a longer shaft than your hybrid. Five would would prob be the way to go, much easier to hit. Many struggle with a 3 wood

There are a few adjustable Woods out there so maybe consider that.

I have 16.5 degree 915 and when driver isn't working it's my go to club. Can put down to 15.75 or up to 17.25 and 18 degrees.

Thanks all, will go back for a fitting on a 5 wood.

If you're topping it and thinning it you must be moving about all over the place.

Have a £20 lesson, practice and dont go down the costly route of buying club after club looking for one that suits your swingfault.

If you cant cook, would you buy more pots and pans or learn to cook?

Thinking of getting a 5 wood (or hybrid) to sit between my driver and 4 iron (21 deg). Never really use the 3 wood and costs me more shots than it's worth.

Had another lesson with the pro, the thins were only of the tee, never a thin off the deck and vice versa.

Tried the 3 wood in the lesson and hitting it better, still not brilliant.

Tried a M2 5 Wood while i was there as well and straight away started hitting it a lot sweeter than the 3 wood and to the same distance as the 3 wood even on the good shots - all down to the slightly shorter shaft in the 5 wood - its an inch and a bit shorter than my ping 3 wood.

Ordered the 5 wood and going to ditch the 3 wood, i wasnt fitted for that either as it was a comp prize, so will be getting rid soon
