Good for them. I thought the premiership lacked something without their supporters in. Win or lose they travel in numbers and always make a game a bit more exciting. I think they need a few signings to be sure of staying up but good to see them back

Is there any chance we can be promoted but stay in the Championship? I like it there. We win a lot, rarely lose and everything feels nice. Ah well.

Great job by Chrissy Hughton - an example of what can be achieved when you ignore the 'big' name and give a bloke a chance.

The squad? Needs a bit of updating just to cope with the pace of the top flight, but there's enough crap teams in the Prem not to need us to go out and spend big. Here's hoping we only get in people that play for the club rather than those big-time wasters who weren't interested when it mattered (I'm looking at you Owen, Duff etc.)

Biggest pleaseure of it all is stuffing it in the face of all those who said we would 'do a Leeds'. We went down, we rolled our socks up and got stuck in and became the best team in the league. That's character.

Next season? 17th or better will be fine thanks.

And in advance of all those who claim that we think we are

a) the biggest club
b) need/want a 'messiah'
c)have the 'best' fans or any of the other media-driven cobblers that gets spouted about us rather than by us...

- up yours.

Howay the Toon.

Still hope you go down.

If a 'messiah' came along you'd take it and you are not the big club you think you deserve to be regarded by.

In all seriousness you lot played some great football this season and more than deserve to go up as champions (which you will do). I think you have a good experienced squad and with two or three decent acquisitions I think you stand a good chance of being a decent side who won't be in the relegation dogfight.

I can't stand it anymore... Back to boro fan mode... "your **** and you know you are...!!!' :)

Also before I get some boro abuse from the toon army, I know were **** and a championship side etc etc etc I just accept that!!! :)

Toonarmy, I agree with your sentiments. Well done on getting promoted. Hopefully you won't have too many Portsmouth players trying to get into your squad on the cheap. Your manager needs to realise that they were crap and didn't have the fight necessary.

Out of interest... How long do you give the manager if (for example) you lose your first 10 games?

I'm waiting for dodger's post. Sure to be a good one.

All I shall say is that it is great to see the mighty Toon back up and will be even greater to see them getting humped again next season, best of a dreadful lot this season, even my Magpie mate has said the standard has been nothing short of dire this year.....another 2nd rate honour for this 'huge' club to crow about.Amazing what putting in a decent manager can do...now if they had only put Hougton in charge instead of bowing to the fans and putting the T.V. pundit in charge to sink them :D

Chances of them staying up along side the biggest club in the North East next season? Unless they spend a fair bit.. evens to drop.

To be fair to Shearer he was never going to save them. It was a publicity exercise when the inevitable was already coming large over the horizon. We have a lot of Reading fans in the club (being our local league team) and they think they are on such a roll coming up from 18th or wherever. It just proves that its a crap standard

Championship this year a much better league than the premier more exciting, though now NUFC are back in the top flite it will be better next year TBH i cant see how newcastle will not be challenging for the top spot, a young vibrant team with excellent potential to go to the top.

*wakes up* ;)

Well done to the toon, played us (bluebirds) off the park in both fixtures so well deserved and expected for them to go straight back up. Hopefully my lot will stay in the play-offs this year but I don't think we will go up.

Pretty much the same as any other manager in the Prem would get...

We'll see how kind/unkind the fixture list is to us. It will come as no surprise to see us away at ManU/Chelsea/Arsenal/Liverpool for the 1st game of the season as Sky seem to like starting a season by having a pop at the Toon.

Whilst the standard of the Championship is truly awful (take note Boro... :) )I think the boys have shown enough grit and belief to have a decent stab at mid-table mediocrity next year.

Still, there's a whole summer for Ashley to do something retarded yet, so let's see!

According to the news today, £15m as a transfer kitty for the Prem.

Stand by for a yoyo season, that won't even scratch the surface.

At the risk of making a plum of myself, I will suggest that we won't be a yo-yo club for the simple fact that we should never have gone down in the first place.

Had the team played as little as half a dozen matches last season with the effort and application of this, we would have stayed up. Christ, if they'd played like this year for half a match against Villa on the last day, we wouldn't have gone down.

Like I said, there are at least 3 other teams in the Prem who I would consider worse than us for next season - and that's not including WBA and whoever else comes up.

It's not how much you've got, it's what you spend it on. Trust me, after having Dalglish, Gullit, Souness and Allardyce 'in charge', we know this better than most!

Congrats to Newcastle on going up 44,000 on a Monday night is good going. Not the greatest lover of them but they were the best of a poor lot who's idea of football is who can kick it furthest, they did well to hold onto Guitteriaz,Collociniand Enrique who can all hold onto the ball and play from the back with out humping it everytime.

Don't think £15 million will be enough but you never know,Chris Houghton has to be given a good chance and hope Fat Boy doesn't make a knee jerk reaction if they are struggling from the off.
