well done on breaking 90 tho , i dont believe it, im agreeing with my ole mucker Bomber here id have probably left you to it after 9 if yo were taking 14 wiggles a shot , even if you had shot 31 , even if i had shot 31 .. that would be bit much for me im afraid

I didnt say it was obscene or unheard of, i said i classed it as slow , i play regularly with 2 20 handicappers and if we were out for 4 hours it was because we were being held up , for the record i believe if your in a hurry you shouldnt be playing but on the flip side a 3 ball taking 4 hours means alot of wasted time iron out 1min 30 seconds a hole and your saving 27 mins evn 1 min a hole and your in in 3hrs 40

Let's put some maths to that.

I don't think it's unreasonable for an amateur to take 30 seconds (and that's very low imo) over each shot from the moment it's their turn to hitting their shot. This will ignore the fact that generally we will all wait until the ball lands to walk forward as we watch the shot. In a three ball of 20 handicaps, that's 46 shots each at best (normally more as we normally play over handicap) so that's 138 occasions of 30 second waits minimum. That's 69 minutes of standing still watching shots. Factor in that will really be more because the amateur golfer takes longer than 30 seconds. Factor in walking a couple of miles. Is two hours now unreasonable?

Played a great round today, shot 87 (17 over) which is only the 3rd time I've broke 90. The two guys I played with didn't play great, one shot 101. By the turn, he was commenting on the time it was taking me to take my shot. I've slowed down a bit to hit better shots which is working, and my putting has come on well, but notice I do take a bit more time to hit the thing. Mr 101 counted 14 'wiggles' before I hit the ball in an approach shot. I would say I was over the ball for 15 seconds before hitting it? Including practice swing. Clearly it's helping my game, and I must say there was some sour grapes after we looked at the front 9 scores and I'd done it in 41... Just wondered if I'm average or I am indeed over wiggling? We did the front 9 in 2hours flat, which was a good time, bit longer on the back as we caught up with the group infront who held us up on the last 4 or 5 holes a bit. So we're not slow players by any stretch of the imagination!

14 wiggles is the CORRECT number! Wiggle away I say.

I've never even noticed I waggle or wiggle. I normally take a practice swing, see the shot in my minds eye then hit. Sometimes I'll take 2 practice swings. I'm not an intentional wiggler!
I really didn't want a low play thread 'cos it's been done a million times, but 2 hours is normal for the 20 odd handicappers I play with usually. When we caught up with the people infront (another 3 ball) I mean we had never been close to them - they were 2 holes ahead at least when we teed off. We also played through a group at the 9th whilst they had a coffee, so I don't think we were too slow!

Watching someone waggle a club for 15 seconds is better than watching them froze over the ball for the same length of time.

I played in a 4 ball that took 3.5 hours recently, and it took away from my enjoyment of the game if I'm being honest. I felt like I had no time to think about the shot I was about to play.

I should join the other self confessed slow players here.

I'd say two hours for nine holes at [guessing] a P'nP of a week end as a good pace...

Went thru' a wiggle/waggle phase myself at one time... Never really done practice swings... Prefer, these days, to stand behind the ball to 'build the picture' then more or less 'pull the trigger' once I feel settled at address...

This was a point I was going to raise last night. I remember being pulled my a marshall first time I played Conrawood. He told use we should have been keeping pace with the group in front. We wern't long pointing out the fact we were on foot the group in front were in buggies and we'd also let the group behind through because they were also on buggies. Keeping pace with the group infront s all well and good but if say they were all single figure handicappers I'd expect to lose ground on them. As long as you aren't also holding up the group behind then things should be fine.
