Toe up or down

Went and had a club mot check after I purchased a set from Ebay. Turns out they were 3/4 of an inch longer than standard and grips are worn. My requirement is only 1/2 inch longer than standard. I'm going to regrip myself so will take 1/4inch off when I do it. The question is, the toe is 1.4degrees down currently. Will reducing the shaft length increase this toe problem, or solve it? (Sadly they did not have a loft and lie machine to confirm if clubs were also upright. they could only diagnose the problem by using these sticky sensor things).

1. Solve it (ie it won't add to it!)
2. Don't understand your subsequent reference to not having a loft and lie machine. If the toe down measurement is dynamic through impact rather than static then it's as much a measurement of your swing dynamics as it is the clubs. They could be neutral at address and your hands are getting away from your body through impact etc etc
