Today's weather is......

My old course, Alnmouth Village, is the same. Built on sand and will be fine to play today if you are daft enough to go out in this. The club survives on visitor green fees in the winter, golfers who's home courses are closed. Going back 10 years +, before an appalling decision by the committee to jack fees up by too large an amount, a lot of golfers were members at Foxton and the Village. The idea was that you played the Village course in the winter when Foxton would be open but soggy. It worked well for both clubs and members.

Any parkland course in the NE open today is going to be A/ a nonsense B/ damaging itself.

Rudebhoy - If your place is open today it is crackers.

yeah, I thought it was a crazy decision. Their rationale was that previously in bad weather, they would get grief from members no matter what decision they made, as there would always be some who thought the course should be open, while there were others who thought it should be closed, so they were in a no-win situation.

I don't really buy that as I think the club has a responsibility to manage the course in the members best interests. To be fair though, fairway protection has been on for a couple of weeks now, so anyone daft enough to play will not be tearing up the fairways.

Could not believe my course was open today.

I hire indoor fitting room when I feel like playing and the weather is crap.

30mph wind, chucking it down, downpour all night, and still saw a dozen or some people coming back from playing a round.

much warmer today... all the frost gone by lunchtime. Though the forecast is for frost again tonight and high pressure for the weekend.

Today's weather is better. Took coat off on 4th tee coz I couldn't swing me club with four layers on. Smashed it for 38 points. Course looked quite well indeed.

Chilly gusty wind tonight. Car said 6 when I got to the range but felt about 2 in the wind chill. Was a tad brrrrrrr hitting balls but a good session so worth the effort. Weekend looking dry if breezy and hopefully this wind will help dry the course a bit
