Today's the Day

So the big day has arrived when Homer and Hawkeye carry the honour of Team GM into the Volvo Matchplay.

We have a home draw against 7 & 23 h'cappers from one of our neighboring courses, Mill Ride.

Tee off is sometime around 3:45 this afternoon so the result will be in later this evening. Wish us luck!

Right, shaved, dressed, bag packed and having an early lunch in about an hour. Then off to the practice ground to hit some balls, bit of chipping and putting and then pace around like a caged tiger for the oppos to show. Off to the first and the smell of blood in the nostrils

Hawkeye can lead as he is a real steady eddie and I'll just go for it as I normally do. I get 5 shots (woo hoo and Hawkeye gets 3 too) but their other guys gets 12. Hopefully he'll be erratic. We'll give it our best guys

I'm playing club knockout this afternoon, and it has just started throwing it down. Already cancelled once due to rain, and no chance of re-arranging, so it's waterproofs again.

I'm still too gutted to go into too much detail but we lost on the 19th to a 25ft birdie, the only time we were down the entire match. I feel like I've been mugged.

More tomorrow probably, the pain of lipping out a 3ft par putt on the 18th to win the match is still a bit raw at the moment, it was about the only thing I missed all day.

Homer did his bit early on usually on the even number holes (2,4,6, 10, 14) but Mike played brilliantly and went round in 79 on his own. However their "7" was level par for 17 holes and including the extra hole -2 for the last 5. His partner wasn't much help but this guy just wouldn't crack. We were 2 up with 2 to go and he holed a 20 foot sand save at the 17th to win the hole, made a par at the last but we both had a putt to win and Mikes lipped out.

First extra hole and I'm 3 foot away putting for par. The guy is on the fringe at least 25 feet away and cans it for a birdie. What can you do? We gelled as a team although as predicted Mike did the lions share (becoming a theme) and did it brilliantly and I tried to come in where I could. One putt puts them ahead for the only time and us out. Mugged as Mike said. Gutted
