Alright I hold up my hands..my name is Drawboy and I read other golf mags. Phew glad that's out of the way I feel better for that. I have just got my latest TG and I have to say I cannot find one single piece of journalism in it anywhere. It is stuffed with "instruction" too much IMHO, there is nothing of substance to read. They may as well call it Today's golf Instruction. If there are any other closet Tg readers on here (shame on us) do you agree?

I subscribe to Golf World and Golf Monthly.... . I don't mind TG, its an easy read but I only usually buy it if I get through GM & GW fairly quickly.

Yeah I bought it too and it may well be the last time I buy it, as you say very little else except instructional stuff. Thats what I have lessons for.

They only ever seem to have interviews with Celebs playing for a £20 quidder - havn't seen a "golf" interview in ages.

I buy it occasionally, but every time I do I think what a total waste of money it is. Nothing to read, just instruction. I'm just a sucker for anything golf related

The one area where TG do well is on the equipment tests, they give actual ratings in different areas (they did a load of irons this month). I can't stand reviews where it's just a bland rehash of the manufacturers blurb.

Subscribe to GW and GI as well, both pretty good but GM is a better all round mag

I do find the TG reviews of gear a little biased towards the main brands, particularly Ping, Cally and TM. It does lack a certain depth but it has its own niche and caters to its market so it can't be doing too much wrong

Notice how they never test Titleist stuff though. Has someone upset someone in the past?

Titleist are notoriously fussy about releasing their stuff to reviewers. They believe their stuff is for decent players and a lot of the choppers who review stuff for magazines are just not suited to it.

Alright I hold up my hands..my name is HughJars and I don't read any golf mags.

I used to, tried them all at one point, then came to realise if you just keep a full set of Jan to Dec, just keep flipping them like a claendar that doesn't change years and you're sorted. Same old same old year in year out.

I used to get GM for the gear reviews but I have now completed my set (Cobras and Ping putter). I do not wish to get interested in any others. I find the instruction items confusing and contradictory so I will probably not renew my subscription.

Agree with all the comments.
I succumbed to the lure of free balls and took out a TG subscription back in December. Balls now all lost yet still stuck with TG coming thru the door every month but buying a copy of GM as well.

This is the first month in ages that I have resisted buying TG but have found less and less of interest to me every month. Whether I can still hold firm in a couple of weeks when I have finished reading GM cover to cover is a different matter a 1 mag a month is not normally enough to satisfy my golf reading.

Golf Monthly is great , fantastic articles, great journalism, brilliant photography, at the right price ... etc etc etc etc
PLease can i have some freebies to test now please ....

Magazines ..? The model of all gaolf magazines is (has been for decades) similar with a tiny bit of a tweak. So you can hardly blame TG for being instruction/tip led - that's always been their style, and gets them their customers.

Some (?) might think that pretty obvious statements made by the typical "Pro" are good journalism;
others might appreciate article after article after article from presumptious "holier than thou" commentators who like to protest about how bad Tiger was, yet who would have done the same given the chance , is also good journalism.

Some of you may even like the semi-clad models in Golf Punk who pretend to be golf rules afficionados>

You pays your money, you takes your choice.
