Today’s Budget

It's a Tory budget, a lot of things were flagged up before the announcement and he's said he will do all he can to help people impacted by the corona virus. Can't get excited about it. But then again I see I've just posted a comment about it so don't believe a word I say.

I've never been overly enthusiastic about any Budget as, barring a few quid here and there, they rarely, if ever, make a tangible difference to me.
Probably a selfish attitude but the man or woman or whatever in the street doesn't see this money. It might change some things for some people but I'm hardly going to be jumping up and down knowing I've got an extra tuppence ha'penny in my pocket.

Trying to work out if the 40 new hospitals he promised today in this parliament are extra too, or just the same ones Boris promised when trying to buy his win.

I'm just waiting for the Lefty Marxist Rag the Bucks Herald to pull it apart;)

Wonder how much it will cost future governments to rectify?
The state of the nhs won’t improve enough in the short term .. but it might help.

The increase in NIC threshold will save a bit of tax & help omb’s a little.
Personally I’m glad the booze rates have been frozen.

The only thing that had me smiling was that the tunnelling of the A303 near Stonehenge will go ahead, not that it likely to be completed in my lifetime.

The thing they had already announced that had me booing is no increase in Tax allowances.

The increase in Council Tax will more than wipe out any increase in State Pension.

I thought it was presented very much in a manner of the Sun or Star. It seems delivering a budget with a gravitas it deserves is history.

Net change accordingly to BBC calculations is + £8 for me... though the 5% council tax will swallow that up.

I will judge the budget and in particular the measures brought in to support individuals and business through the coronovirus crisis when these measures are delivering.

I think the government will have to go a lot further supporting many vulnerable individuals and businesses - who will need an immediate cash injection to keep paying their bills and living. Many business and individuals operate on a month-to-month - if not week-to-week basis - with them having to eke out their income to get to the end of the month or week. 2017 stats show that 1 in 4 families have less than £100 in savings. There is no point in lending such business and individuals money as they will most likely not be able to pay it back unless they are able to do so over a very long period with low or no interest. Alternatively do as the Hong Kong government did and just provide everyone with a bridging grant of some form.
