Tm rocketblades - anyone had a bash?

Just won some of these on eBay, I put in a stupidly low bid on behalf of my brother and actually ended up winning them. Then he went and bought the RocketBallz anyways. So assuming they are actually genuine, I now need to decide whether or not I want to keep them. It would be a shame to remove the plastic if I didn't actually want them, so may need to take a trip to AG with my current clubs and see if the TM marketing shpeel has any merit?

If they were a stupidly low price yet they are hardly in the shops yet then they are fake and you will have a lot of running around to do to get your money back. What was the sellers rating like? How much were they and for how many irons?

Sorry to be a doom sayer....

definitely a doom sayer!!!!!!

whilst they may not be the ones purchased by the poster (but I bet they were) - the only ones I have seen recently had only 2 bids, 8 clubs 4-SW, sold for £420, seller 1000+ at 99.6% with lots of clear pictures etc

so, 432 inc postage against 549 listed at AG - no real 'street price established'. Sounds like a 'good deal' (rather than a stupidly low price)

Alex, I must admit that my first thought was that I may have been stung with some fakes, suppose I won't know until I actually get my hands on them. The serial number on the club was accepted by the TM website and I have spoke to the seller who guarentees me they are genuine, just by sending me them he could have criminal charges against him. He has been an eBay member for 8 years with over 300 feedback all 100%, which is better than mine. Also it wasn't a "Buy It Now", it was an actual 7 day auction. The auction was for a 5-SW reg steel and it ended last night with my bid, I am protected by Paypal if they are counterfeit.

The only way to find out if I have a bargain is to take the chance, I will keep everyone updated though. If they do turn out to be fake... anyone interested in a brand new set of RocketBladez

Hmm all sounds pretty good then... I shall be interested to see how it goes and retract my earlier statement.

stopped off at a golf shop on my way back rom a meeting yesterday and they had some on display.

Horrid looking things, not sure which part was supposed to be blade like. Hulking great things, very chunky.

OK, so just been to AG and I took my current 7 iron with me. I using RAM FX100 with reg graphite shafts and currently play off 22.

Had a quick look at the RocketBladez before I tried them, they weren't as big/bulky as I expected after reading other comments. In fact they were actually smaller than my RAMs. They aren't meant to be blades, as much as they aren't meant to be rockets either. "Bladez" is simply the name TM gave them to sound "cool", instead they just caused confusion among 50% of golfers (myslef included).

Any ways I asked the salesman if I could take the 7 iron (reg steel shaft) on the range and compare it with my own, he seemed more than confident that I would see the difference in distance and offered to set the machine up to show me as well. I didn't really want someone breathing down my neck whilst I mishit ball after ball, so I asked if I could try the range where I could concentrate a bit better.

I alternated between my RAM and the TM every 5 or so balls, I reckon on average I was hitting the 135 marker with both clubs. The heights were also quite similar, so two things that I expected to be completely different, actually weren't. However I did hook a few shots with both clubs and the TM was a lot more forgiving, I could actually see the ball correcting its flight path in mid air.

I went back into the store and the salesman was very surprised that I wasn't seeing any additional distance but attributed the similar heights to one being a steel shaft and the other graphite. According to him, graphite shafts help promote height, does anyone know if this is true? So he insisted I try the machine to measure the results on screen.

I tried watching for sales trickery but didn't spot anything obvious as he got me to hit 3 balls with my club, followed by 3 with the TM. We did this 3 times and compared the results each time, they were all pretty much the same. I have an average swing speed of 78mph so apparently a steel shaft is definitely for me. The next part I found hard to believe, my average distance with my RAM was 128 yds and my average with the TM was 142 yds???? I am sure this has to be wrong, because I usually get my 7 iron out on the course if I am 150 yds away from the green. So I honestly haven't got a clue what to think, if anyone one can explain these results I would appreciate it.

Sorry for the anti-climax to such a long post!

Well that really doesn't make sense.

Your 7 iron is probably closer to the RB 8 iron in loft. So for you to hit both 7 irons the same distance is strange.

To see the length difference on the trackman is more obvious as the RB 7 iron is actually more like your 6 iron, and you would therefore see quite a length difference between your own 7 iron and the RB 7 iron.

So the salesman is correct you really should have seen a difference on the range too. Can't explain why you didn't, unless you were striking the ball so badly that you were effectively mi******** the RB irons?

Woh I ain't that bad, no need for the language lol

You are right though it makes no sense, I wouldn't say I was mis-hitting them on the range though and if I was I couldn't of corrected myself that quick.

Hmmm, the swear filter got a little excited there, just because I missed it the hyphen ;)

Anyway the difference in length you saw could be explained by the loft difference, and would probably be seen my most people. The lack of difference on the range makes no sense though, hence my comment about mis-hitting .... I would expect most people would be able to see the difference in 128'ish and 142'ish when hitting balls.
