This is starting to bug me now (probably a sign of impending madness) .

Why is Titleist pronounced titelist???
Why isn't it said like it's written????
:D :D

Titleist

If you treat the -ist suffix as in Final-ist, you get Title-ist.

A final-ist is someone in a final, a Title-ist is someone in a title (or playing for a title, perhaps).

Does that make any sense?

good point HH,you,ve given me something to think on in bed tonight(rather than that beauty of that 6 iron on Sunday drawing into the left to right wind on the par 3 14th...oh, the way it flew and curved and rolled to 8 feet........of course I missed the putt AND THE ONE BACK!!!)Thank you for diverting my thoughts!!!

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH...................
now i understand, thankyou for your words of wisdom.
i shall no longer constantly correct my mate, like an overzealous schoolteacher.

It gets pronounced 'Tite list' because of the unusual combination of sounds and unusual/awkward emphasis in 'Title ist'

It's no different from a lot of compounded words (particularly in French) where final vowel sounds are dropped and the preceding consonant is slurred onto the next vowel

I've herd it pronounced bothe title-ist & Tite-list

Seems to me the brits pronounce it Title & the yanks Tite.. I certainly pronounce it title...ist

I know one chap who actually pronounces it Tittle...ist... Enough to make me titter a bit ....rofl.

I've had someone ask me from another fairway whether I had see their "tit-least"...

I'll stick with "tight list", or as mine are more affectionately called, the spanners.

I had always assumed that the name's origin was German i.e. titleist (tit lyst) with pronunication changed for obvious reasons. There are a number of US firms (non golf) using that name where title-ist wouldn't make much sense.

MaxFli is another good one, is it pronounced Max - Fly, or Maxi - Fly... I tend to pronounce it the latter way as Maxi-Fly, but know its probably the incorrect way of pronouncing it. There again I could't give a fig "I prefer it my way" ala Lord of war ;)

For 40 years I called them TiT lis as that was what the old man called them, German rubbish better with Dunlop rubber.
Always played with Slash n grin in the old days now play with Nike, do you pronounce it with or without the accent?
Same with Srixon how do you pronounce that?

Nike: no ee on the end.

Srixon: is Srick-son

Titleist: Title-ist

I hate when people call Callaway Golloway and Stableford Stapleford, well maybe not hate but you know what I mean.
