Titleist sueing Taylormade golf re Camilo Villegas

Thats why I think it will settle out of court someone moving from your camp to one of your rivals for what ever reason is not something you want to overly publicize

I sure TM will make so much more coin from having Camilo on the staff than the small sum they will have to pay Titleist.

I saw the Camilo was using TM superfast fairway wood at the Open.I thought that was strange has he play those older Cobras for ages

I think cobra will lose big time on sales if he does go. I know Poulter is higher ranked but villegas pulls the sales in overseas a lot more in my opinion. One of my favourite players.

I was going to buy some Cobra irons 'cos Villegas plays them but now I will just go out and buy Taylormade's because Villegas uses them now so they must be loads better. Yeah right. What a load of tosh. The top guys could use Donnay's and still bash it round in a lower score than I ever will.

True mate but there are a lot of folk(millions) who buy when they see their favourites using them or why pay the money to have them use them ;) A lot of "tosh" maybe but they must be getting the money back from someone if not yourself.

The cynic in me thinks tis is good old fashioned US sabre rattling and Titleist just throwing a hissy fit as Villegas is going. Its no different to football clubs accusing another team of tapping a player up and usually after the deal is done.

I'd be surprised especially is a place like the US where a law suit will be filed before the ink on Villegas's contract was dry if they really have been that stupid. The article does seem fairly conclusive but I'm sure there is more to it

I'm with homer, in mist sports top players, riders, drivers, sportsman will negotiate a better contract for the following season. As long as he doesn't play penta/tm balls or adidas golf wear until he's contracted had ended I don't see the issue, just sounds like titleist /footjoy spitting their dummy

I can kind of understand them spitting their dummy though. If he's under contract to endorse FJ/Titleist until the end of the year, but TaylorMade are shouting about how he's leaving and coming to them, then his credibility as an endorser (?) is useless.

It's basically like saying, "Buy these balls/shoes that I like so much, I'm not going to be wearing them next season!

By disclosing that he will be joining them, TaylorMade have undermined Titleist and will damage the next 4-5 months worth of sales from however many camillo fans would have bought ProV/FJ because he uses them.

He's leaving one pishy brand for another pishy brand.

My care factor is very low.

most agents are lining up the next deal before the ink is dry on the first one.

and I can't see either Titleist or Footjoy sales being harmed - TM balls aren't exactly that much of a rival to Pro V.

I'd of thought Titleist would have got him like they did Ogilvy rather than let TM get their hands on him.

He must have been swayed by the product choice - I mean like, they release about 4,000 drivers a year don't they ;) lol
