Most used ball, most marketed ball, the most expensive ball......... Reason, they have to get their money back somehow to fund both major tours and what better way then to get their money back by hitting the back pockets of us mere mortals...

I changed to Bridgestone 4yrs ago, my scores are similar, they fly just as far and stop just as quick and for a premier ball they cost less.

I'm about to move to the B330 for this season. I'd still use the Hex Black if i could find them anywhere though

What B330 though? AG have them at £20 but then there's tour version at £38 which you can get ProV1's for (2014 edition)

I will be using the B330 Tour which is for swing speeds over 105mph (black box). you can get them for £30 if you look around.

In my view, too many people act like the Pro V1 is the be all and end all of golf balls. i think a proper ball fitting would show that very few people outside of Cat1 golfers should be using them

also, do people really think pros are using the same balls as we use? same as clubs.... no chance

100% the same ball...they have to be on the Approval list. If they weren't, they couldn't be used!

Well I'll be looking to buy a dozen of the older version, but only because I'm going to end up owing Birchy a dozen thanks to my wonderful football club.. Then I'll be straight back to my bag of balls that I've picked up when walking the dog over the course...

What difference would there be in the balls that the pros use ?

And surely amateurs can use the same clubs as pros ? Just cost a lot more

Quality control is a lot tighter. TM for example in production will check 1 in say 100 balls (i cant remember the exact number), for tour pro use, every single ball gets QA checked. Technically its the same ball though.

It's the cost that puts me off pro v's.

Can always seem to pick up TM, Srixon or Callaway tour balls on an offer for about 20 sheets a box so I just buy whatever is on offer.

Good luck getting hold of the exact iron heads the Tiger and Rory use.

Why do you think TM do these 'Vault' sales..... the heads are all slightly different, shafts better etc etc.

also, this may be an old article but

this proves my point about the golf balls.

Strange that when you look at the conforming list of balls you don't see these "Tour Only" balls - brlirbe that the "+ could be ordered in.

One of the pros I play with in Pro Am's has Titliest sponsership - unless I'm missing something there doesn't seem to be anything different drom the balls he gets

And when it comes to clubs you can get the same conforming heads and shafts etc as the pros.

Both Rory and Woods use the new Vapour blades - they can be purchased. Unless you believe the stories that they are "Japanese made with a nike logo slapped on them"

I was lead to believe that they were a brief foray into softer covers at around the time the groove regulations changed - with the combination of wearing out really really fast and the underlying models subsequently changed the experiment wasn't continued. At the time it was also questioned as to whether certain tour players had asked for them or whether T proposed them.

Not aware of any since, but prototyping goes on all the time (as it does with clubs) so there's a strong argument that the case is proven.......however, it's also true to say that anything that works (and is practical) will find it's way onto the general market too!

I never buy ProV1s because they are too expensive and there are IMHO equally good balls out there at better prices. That said, I can't remember the last time I bought any balls that weren't on offer.

too pricey for me and I actually prefer a ball that spins slightly less than the ProV1, the x is decent but I cant justify paying the extra personally. this year ill be mainly playing callaway hex chrome + i seem to have picked up plenty in the recent sales

From the fella who fits the Pros for TM: The heads are the same heads that we get. From memory some of the hybrids and woods have a longer hosel to allow them to be adjusted but aside from that, they're the same. Same goes for their balls, apart from the quality control mentioned above.

Used the old version with the solid thick black arrow for a while but couldn't get on with the grey arrow version. Changed to RZN black and gained distance off the tee, sound better and fly better in my opinion too. Won't be going back to Titleist unless Nike ruin the RZN model (Unfortunately they have history in changing balls)

We went into the Titleist tour fitters workshop at St Ives when we went for our GM 913 fitting session.

Sorry to disappoint but there were no secret "tour only" clubs or balls!

Tour only shafts maybe - and having seen the up charge for the shaft our club pro got fitted for.....hardly surprising!!!!
