Titleist DT Solo

I use these and play off 23. I find them quite long off the tee, and with a connection with the shorter irons you can get them to check up after a bounce or too.

The best advantage for a high handicapper thouse is they cost less than £1 a ball which at the rate I lose them is great.

rubbish balls, to hard and feel terrible, your paying a pounds for the titleist logo just as well use top flite or dunlop tour in fact dunlop feel better and cheaper

I've had a look at lake balls too, but don't really know much about them. Are they literally collected and sold? Or is something done to them?

personally I buy pro v1 lake balls off ebay and am off 22 h/c, usually get them around 50-75p a ball

The DT Solo are a decent budget ball but you do pay a premium for the Titleist name.

I'd put them in the same performance category as The Nike PD soft, Callaway CXR control, Pinnacle Gold, Dunlop NZ9 V2 and Srixon Distance. They're all decent distance balls that are available at less than £10 a dozen if you look about for offers on the internet. You'll also be able to pick most of the above up in Sports Direct at a decent price.

All of the above balls are good enough to get you down to a 20 handicap or less, however if you want a slightly better ball consider the following, Srixon Soft Feel, Srixon AD333, Bridgestone E6, Wilson DX2/3, Callaway Hot Hex/Hot Hex Pro and Dunlop NZ9 V3's all of which offer good all round performance at a good price. If you look around for offers you will be able to pick up a box for around £12 a dozen.

My advice would be to look for a ball that you like the feel of and stick with it. Don't be put off by the cheap price of the Dunlops as they perform much better than their price band suggests.

srixon ad333 are good
 
Find a ball that you are comfortable with and that's all you need regardless of handicap.

The DT solo is white, round and dimpled. An out and out distance ball. Not really any better than the other distance balls out there.
 
Srixon Tri-Speed are excellent, but you don't see many around. Bit more expensive. I'm currently using Bridgestone e6, and very impressed. Used one for 2 rounds and not a scratch on it.
 
At the cheaper end of the ball market I like the srixon soft feel and the Wilson dx2. You are getting, IMO, a better ball than the titleist without the up charge for the name.

Was going to recommend these, along with the bridgestone e5 or e6 aswell.

They are all much, much better balls than the dt solo but similar money.

as you previously posted this opinion prior to the current ball being produced, along with a statement to the effect that you would ever play them again. can you confirm that you mean this in respect of the current model??????

IMO the new DT Solo is an amazing ball for the price - certainly one that gets played by me as and when picked up (unlike the previous version with blue/red printing)
 
Having switched recently to the DT Solo from lake/found balls, the difference is immense.

Using them for no more than two or three rounds before switching to a newer one has seen a difference in ball striking (not hitting much longer, but certainly straighter), and putting (better roll, smoother strike).

Also, the thought of teeing up a ball that has no unknown history, means trusting it a bit more.

This is worth it as I've progressed well past the point where I go losing balls willy nilly.

A lesson every 6 weeks, decent clubs makes the next step good balls. These are the business to me.
 
Not used the new model as its not a make I like. The old version was way too hard for my liking and there are many other balls out there, not necessarily premium makes, that I prefer. If the OP likes them and is progressing then it makes sense to find a ball he likes at a good price.
