Hi

Sorry to start with a question, and such a dumb one at that....

Just received my new Titleist AP2 irons, the shafts have the usual ProjectX stickers on them, but I've also received a sheet of 15 stickers or so with "Titleist : club fitting" and my name on them, half is clear plastic, the other is the text I've just quoted

Any ideas what they're for? Am considering fuelling my ego and sticking them on all my shafts, but am not sure if they serve some other purpose, what with half of each one being clear

Thanks
Nick

welcome to your new home of first resort,

don't know the answer but did you have the clubs fitted? If so could the clear half be to cover the existing label?

welcome to your new home of first resort,

Cheers!

I had them fitted yes, I was thinking the same. Position these with the clear bit over the ProjectX sticker (or part of it) so they butt against it.

Ahh, such trivialities when all I want to do is be out hitting them!! damn this rain.....

Right, your new c/f'ed ions should have personalised labels already fitted by Titleist, and they give you about 15 spares, in case your irons get run over by a truck, and break all the shafts, and need reshafting.

If the labels on the shafts are standard, you can peel them off, remove the adhesive with white spirit, dry the shafts, and put the new labes on.

The label wraps around with the transparent bit going on,last. this protects the print from rubbing off in your bag.

Have fun with your new irons.

Ah yes, that makes sense, wrapping them round rather than down the shaft. There aren't any already on the shafts though

Nick, stand up and tell us about yourself, dont be shy!

Sure, what ya wanna know?

I'm 32, like quiet nights in and wild nights out ;)

Been playing golf since a kid, finished last summer on 10.something, playing off 11 though I had to take a couple of months off due to hayfever and a family illness, so should be a bit lower

So I'm hoping these irons and some increased impetus like playing every week will get me into the illusive single figures, I averaged 9 holes every fortnight last summer :(

Currently in the bag, 2009 TaylorMade burner driver, burner 3w and lynx 5w, AP2 irons (presently without custom stickers), 5.5 projectx shafts and a "severely upright" lie angle with chunky grips, scotty cameron newport 2 putter, Odyssey 60' wedge and Titleist Vokey 54'

Took the ProV1's out of the bag and replaced them with 2 dozen Wilson TX4's as they're cheaper and look cool with those flat dimples

Gonna give it a real go this season as never really hit a driver regularly (hence the 2009 burner purchase) and aiming to deal with the hayfever issue this year

So if anyone has any tips on dealing with crippling hayfever (that no over the counter tablets can deal with enough to let me play golf), and/or has been using the Wilson TX4's, I'd be eternally grateful!!!

Welcome to the forum Nick, hope you stick around. Have you tried a gas mask, I learnt how to shoot in one, surely you can learn to play golf in one :D

I myself suffer badly from hayfever and unfortunatley dont know of anything that works perfectly. I use zirtek that are a one a day tablet and they seem to be pretty good.

Craig

Yep, I find them the best. But during May and June, even taking two of those buggers a day, I'm a wreck after 9-12 holes, just all the energy is gone, and throat/nose is in a bad way

Think I'm going to try and get the almost-mythical NHS injection this year.....

Welcome to the forum, I to am a hayfever sufferer although not beyond medical repression, so do sympathise. I have had a couple of good rounds ruined before by the onset of hayfever symptoms. One tip if you don't already is wear sunglasses all the way round- it stops the pollens etc getting in your eyes.

Anyway as you have found out from asking your first question, there are not many things someone on here doesn't know about- It's great! So enjoy.

My brother suffers with hayfever and has found that dosing up on high levels of vitamin C greatly reduces his symptoms. Dont know if you have tried this but it may be worth a try.
He was recommended this from a herbalist.

I don't know if it is still possible to get this, but a long time ago (30 years) I had a series of three Pollinex injections for two consecutive years.

This virtually eradicated my hayfever for about 10 years and it has since never been as bad.

The process involved a series of skin tests (about 48 I think) to test for your particular allergy and the vaccine was made up to suit. It didn't work for everyone and not everyone could use it, my mate tested positive for everything.

No, this was withdrawn due to a number of people going into anaphylactic shock while being injected, and dying.

I was half way through the process, having had two of the injections when it was withdrawn. It was starting to get somewhere too. Worth the risk, I thought.

Don't play in the evening, when pollen is at it's worst.
Wear eye cover (sunnies).

Other than that, if there was a cure, Tiger would use it, and endorse it, because he is another sufferer.

i've heard the best solution to chronic hayfever is to source some locally produced honey - eat lots of it regularly and its meant to increase your body's imunnity to it. but it has to be locally produced stuff so it contains the same pollen etc as whats affecting to you.

might be a lot of old tosh but its worth a try cos i know how miserable the summer can be.

other than that speak to your doctor as they can prescribe stronger antihestimenes and a little tip - tell him you're leaving the country for a few months and he'll do you a prescription for loads of it.

The best cure seems to be old age. I now get a much milder form of hayfever than I did 30 years ago, and for much less time. Down to about 5 weeks a year now, from about 5 months.

So patience then, the best cure.

I think in another 50 or so years, I won't get it at all. That said, I will be 93, so it probably won't matter so much.

As a fellow sufferer, I too have tried allsorts.

Never tried honey before, but I have heard the same story. Apparently though, the trick is to start NOW - about 4 months before symptoms usually start, to help your body build up the resistance. I have also started taking hayfever tablets now, in an attempt to achieve the same effect - prevention better than cure etc.

I also find that Opticrom eyedrops help reduce the symptoms (dunno if you can absorb the pollen through your eyes, but it seems to work for me)

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'm going to book an appointment with my GP in April/May

Took the AP2s out for a spin today, very, very nice club. Coming from an old set of DCI's, I can feel the quality of the club.

My trajectory seems a bit lower with the ProjectX 5.5 shafts, does that sound right? I sort've liked it because pinching the ball against the turf I got quite a bit of spin

I seem to have lost half a club at least in distance, but used to hit the old irons quite far as they were considerably longer, way too long in fact.

The biggest revelation was the Burner driver. Was reading on Golf.com about moving the ball 3-4inches forward, teeing very high and trying to hit on the up. It's tough today in the cold with the wind and saturated ground, but my, that driver went straight and true today. Really enjoyed hitting that
