Tipping

In Liverpool tipping bar staff is very prevalent, and I've been brought up that way. If you say "take your own" for years they would take 10,20 or 30p, but some of them are now taking 50p. Nowadays, I'll only tip if decent service is forthcoming, and normally get my change and then pass them the tip back as 50p is taking the pee.

You have to be careful outside Liverpool though, as say "take your own" and some buggers will have a half or even a pint.

Depends on the country, in the US you tip for service regardless, how good or bad would determine the amount but for good service there 20% is EXPECTED, they have a tip culture and it is majorly frowned upon if you tip nothing, if you feel service out there was bad you should be complaining.

As for your cab ride, I'd think £20 would be spot on.

The US taxman assumes the serving person has received, I think, a 20% tip. This is calculated on their receipts. If they work all day with no tips they are paying the tax on top of their wages tax. I think this also applies in Canada.
