Is there a best time to change irons? Now, at the end of the season, with winter and early spring to get used to them would seem a good time. But would it be better to wait until spring, when it will be easier to tell how they perform in the better weather?

Not really looking - just , well, you know......

Looking.............

Im in the same dilema as you but with a driver. I thinks it makes more sense to buy new irons or whatever in the winter to get used to them. I also would like to now what everyone thinks. Sorry for hijacking your post aswell.

My thought would be now - whole winter to practice and come out with a vengeance in the spring?

And is not now the best time to get a good deal? (Will not sales be dropping off as season comes to a close?)

Ps - just a thought, but VAT goes back up at end of year

No such thing as the right time, its just when you fancy or require a change because the confidence in your kit has dwindled. One thing I would mention is the cold weather has an influence on the distance you hit the ball, especially on the range so it may be difficult to guague the true performance of a new set of sticks at peak competition time i.e the summer.

I would much prefer to buy a new set in Spring and have a good bit of practice in (hopefully) improving conditions ready to hit the summer on a roll.

However, the VAT thing is a consideration.......ah go on, call it an early Christmas present :D

Cant see Labour puting VAT back up. They have made such a backide already of the ecconomy that it would be suicidal to raise VAT again.

Incidently dont even get me started on £1.08 a litre for diesel at the pumps!

Hey Imurg, how are the old irons going? do you just fancy some new sticks or do you want some that will improve your game? If you are not going to change shaft flex all you will be buying is a new shape head.As my pro told me, "at the end of the day the same person will be swinging them with the same swing and if you can't swing the ones you have, what makes you believe you can swing a new one any better?" It made me think when he put it to me like that.
If it is 'cos you just fancy something new for the new season go for it, but if it's game improvement you are after why not check out a lesson and see what your pro say's first, it could work out much cheaper.

So you aren't really looking.....
Rubbish, You obviously are

You are just looking for that little nudge to justify your whim and wondering how to get it authorised by HID

Well Little Bro

Go for it, I did

And Yes I think This time of year is best, it will take several rounds to get into the swing (pun Intended) and at least with no competitions looming, you wont be in danger of upping your handicap.

Prepare to be creamed on Friday

Big Bro

Spring is best. How can you adapt to a new set of sticks with 15 jumpers on? By the time spring comes, with proper golf weather, you will have lost confidence, and be looking for another new set.

Ps - just a thought, but VAT goes back up at end of year

Good point.

Yep £2.50 for every £100 spent, that's hardly going to make a difference.

I'd wait until spring, you will have the choice of all the shiny new models. If you don't fancy these, then last years (this years) models should be reduced. Nothing worse than buying clubs now, then seeing them discounted in the New Year.
