Time to change clubs?

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, and also to my first club, and am hoping to find some advice to steer me in the right direction for the new season.

I have a set of Mizuno MP60s which I acquired from a friend. However since playing more regularly their limitations (for me) are becoming more obvious:

- 7-P mostly clean strikes, can work the ball either way.
- 3-6 rarely hit a good shot, good connections result in low ball flight.

It's probably clear I could benefit from some kind of cavity on the longer irons. I've been looking at MX25s on golfbidder, are there any other sets anyone would recommend I take a look at?

Also keen on adding a couple of woods to the bag. The pro shop only stocks a few and I'm a little reluctant to splash ~£140 per club on the latest seasons offerings, as much as I'd like to support the club. Are there any recommendations for fairway woods a few seasons old going for a good price?

Sorry for the vague questions but I would really appreciate any input. (devoid of golf centres/ranges round here and get the feeling that the pro shop have a combination of theirs and mine interests at heart!)

Hi and welcome!

You'll not go far wrong with MX25's.
But a lot depends on your actual ability.
If you're fiarly new to the game - which I suspect you are - then your swing probably won't be able to get the best from MP60's
Most of the name brand - and a few non-names too - have Game Improvement irons similar to the MX25's. Golfbidder is a good place to start as you can guarantee all clubs are genuine, unlike a certain Auction site where you need to know what you're looking at.
Plenty of Callaway X series to look at, Cleveland CG7 are a decent bet, as are Ping G10 or any of the MX MIzuno series.
As for fairways I'd point you in the direction of Callaway X or Diablo, Cleveland Launcher, Ping G10/15 or TaylorMade Burner - any of theses are available fairly cheaply and will be as forgiving as the day is long.

There are other brands. MD and Benross are at the cheaper end of the scale but have good quality components. I don't know much about Nike, Wilson, Yonex etc but they all make decent stuff.
Titleist tended in the past to be aimed towards the better player and as such most of their product isn't as forgiving as the rest. Having said that, if your swing can cope they make some outstanding clubs.

Plenty of advice on here!
Custom fitting is your best option, but if you have a tight budget then you can't go wrong with either the ping g10/15, or even mizuno mx200's.
Flee bay is ok, as long as you check feedback and there are some golf outlet shops on there, but I agree with
Imurg, golfbidder is a better option.

Welcome to the forum Have you considered getting a hybrid to replace long irons? They are easier to hit, paticularly out the rough, ive tried a few from a selection of brands and the one I found best was the callaway diablo edge, I don't know much about fairway woods but just something to consider
