Tiger

I've not seen any of this week's coverage. Has he still got that ridiculous goatee?

Nice to see him playing well again though. I honestly thought it wouldn't happen. Has he binned Sean Foley?

so why put a bet to win on then:confused:

I'm not. I'm laying the bet to win which is betting against it.

@The19thHole - I think at the top level the vast majority of golf is played between your ears and he's had too much going on lately. I don't think he'll have the singular focus he used to have which is his best quality. We'll see anyway!

Sport is more interesting when as many of the top players are playing their best. So it follows that Tiger playing his best is better viewing...doesn't it?

I have absolutely no doubt that Tiger will be back to his best and winning, provided he plays regularly and is fit.

I didn’t start the thread as a Tiger bashing very much the opposite.

The guy is just a wonderful, outrageously great and a one-off golfer - what he does in his private life I don’t care about and not interested in to be honest.

Great to see him back at the top... for now.

Go Tiger!

Exactly how I feel. Don't care what he does off the course. I'd love to see him back at his best because his best is quite simply awesome.

It's never ceased to amaze me how people take such a dislike to celebrities when they don't actually know them.

Another Tiger Bashing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nJfhUGM4Yc Take a moment to watch this AGAIN, in full screen.

This is the kind of stuff Nike would pay Hollywood millions of dollars to design for an advert! Tiger did it all by himself. The man was once a golfing genious, and when he's on top of his game, its as good as words can describe!

Why wouldn't you want him playing?

that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up,absolutely love watching that shot over and over again...."in you're life have you ever seen anything like that".....everything about that shot, the atmosphere, the crowds reaction, just going in and no more with the nike tick, you couldn't write this kind of stuff.

Is anyone saying that they dont want to see him playing..........I would like to see him win....but I'm still going to have a pop at him.

He's given himself the best opportunity to win after the first two rounds but it'll be interesting to see where he is after moving day tomorrow. If he's within a shot or two of the lead it could happen. Personally I don't think he's quite sharp enough and he'll fall a few shots short but definitely a good base. The Presidents Cup won't hurt him too much either as its match pay and he can afford to have the odd wild hole but still get match practice in the tank

Did anyone notice how much Stevie influenced the ball going onto the hole..........
What an Employer.....:D

What i dont understand in some posts is .. we are all golf fans here (or why you here) then why would you not want to see the best golfers playing & their best week in week out ? im not a fan of Tiger the man.. youl see that in another post.. but i would love to see him play his best again. 4me as a spectator i mean not for him . , dont like poulter bout love to see his golf when he firing on all cylinders.. never a fan of faldo the man , some golfer tho.. .. giving the choice would ye rather watch boring unexciting golf from lovely people or great golf from a wide range of people who may have flaws.. which would you realy rather watch & pay hard earned dosh to watch ?

Just bogied the first two. Getting off to a bad start just like he did so many times in his prime!

Wonder what the rest of the day will bring.

wasn't great.finished the rnd @ +3 and back to -6,top 8!!!!!
hopefully he can get shoot a sub 70 rnd and move up the board a bit but still a decent performance,dj struggled with a back to back 75 :(

Fair point, but for my part what I don't understand is why anyone would want golf turning into a version of F1, where the same driver leads from start to finish and you don't see a single overtake for the whole race! What may start as entertainment ends up being predictable and dull.

I have to wonder how many contributors here actually watch the PGA Tour regularly, and how many base their opinion of Woods on Majors and WGC events. I'm a regular Tour viewer, and there came a time when Woods was in his prime where, from a competitive entertainment point of view, it simply wasn't worth watching.

I couldn't give two hoots what the man gets up to in his personal life. It's up to him. But I simply cannot understand why anyone would rather watch a procession than a genuinely open tournament in which any one of ten or fifteen players are in with a shout at 3 o'clock on a Sunday afternoon. In that respect one man's dominance is bad for the game.

And I would add that the network obsession with him is infuriating to me as someone who wants to watch a golf tournament, not a single player for hours on end. To have another player two shots off the lead not feature in coverage because they feel compelled to show each and every shot Woods plays is just ridiculous.

There comes a time with all sportsmen who have dominated their sports when fans move from enjoying watching them dominate their opponents to getting bored with it. I'm thinking of the likes of Sampras, Steve Davis, Hendry, Schumacher, even Jack. Then we realise what we've missed and for old time’s sake would like to see them win one more time (except Schumi of course ;)). Sometimes, like with Jack's 1986 Masters, it actually happens.

I don't know if fans will feel the same about Tiger. I doubt now that he will beat Jack's record - winning 5 Majors is a rare for an entire career. I do think the "Tiger Slam" was one of the most amazing achievements in golf and that his only real rival for the title of best ever is Jack (I know cases can be made for Jones and Hogan too and I've always thought Hagen was underrated but that's another debate).

I enjoyed watching Tiger at his best. He was a breath of fresh air when he burst on the scene - golf was in danger of going into a dull period with exciting talents like Seve, Norman, Ollie, reaching the end of their careers. The last 3 majors of 1996 were won by Steve Jones, Tom Lehman and Mark Brooks. Like Seve, Tiger played shots we didn’t think were possible and, like Seve, he reached beyond golf's usual fan base and definitely brought a new audience to golf.

The good thing is that there's always new talent ready to come along and luckily for us we are in a golden age for young golfers who play the game with a bit of pzazz, and for that reason I don't think Tiger has been or will be missed as much as once he would have.

In 1997 - 2007, given the choice of watching Tiger or Shaun Micheel, Steve Jones, Mark O'Meara, Todd Hamilton, Rich Beem, David Duval and Mike Wier win a Major, I'd have gone for Tiger every time and been cheering for him too.

But it's 2011. I'd like to see Tiger playing his best again. I'd like to see Sandy and Greg and Jack and Arnie playing their best again too. Time moves on and as JFK said the torch has been passed to a new generation.

Wasn't a great day in round 3 and so it will be interesting to see just how he comes back and whether he still has that rock hard self belief and whether he truly trsuts his game right now. There is nothing anyone can do that will stop the media and the TV coverage in particular focussing on him. As the pictures we see from overseas are directed by the host broadcaster and then fed to Sky etc you are dictated by whatever the producer wants to show and invariably thats Tiger. I agree that the US coverage in particular is obssesional but nothing you can do other than Sky+ it and fast forward through Woods or turn over if you don't want to watch it. I still enjoy watching him but there isn't that edge of the seat atmosphere now about him especially with his short game and putting and he doesn't seem to conjour miracles as often as he once did

But that wasn't Tigers fault, yet everyone seems to blame him for his dominance and turn against him because of this. I get tired of hearing the anti Tiger arguments that are based on him destroying a field. The man is a golfing genius and we should consider ourselves lucky to have witnessed his amazing talents.

You're splitting hairs a little to be fair Rick!

Like everyone here, I suspect, I've never met Woods not am I likely to! So I can't really say whether I like him as an individual, any more than you can based on his golfing talent. What I am saying is that I dislike watching a one man show every Sunday.
