Wasn't it exciting before Tiger joned the tour or am I missing something?
I'm not being an ass, I genuinely want to know! Was it the same when, say, Faldo or Nicklaus was in the mix?

Yes it probably was. Any time a top named golfer is in the mix it is exciting. May be less so with Faldo, as he just ground out solid scores, but with Tiger, Seve, Nicklaus, John Daly at their best, they were exciting to watch, as you never knew what was coming next, except that it could be incredible.
He's exciting to watch, love him or hate him you cant ignore him............. unlike whats-his-name that scored well in the thinghy tournament a few weeks ago....I think

This semi-reflects my point Murph.
Golf was exciting before Woods joined the Tour and will continue to be after he retires. I don't subscribe to the notion of golf being more exciting just because Tiger plays.

He was out-scored by his 52-year-old Presidents Cup skipper, so let's not get too carried away. A decent score, but he needs to string them together for four rounds, then a few consecutive tournaments before I'll believe he's back in form.
On the point of whether it was exciting before Tiger... yes of course. BUT, he was capable of play and scores which I don't think anyone else has been capable of. Holding all four major titles at once... come on, that's special.
But is he still capable of it? Maybe not.

Given what he has been through (mainly self-inflicted, it has to be said) it would be remarkable if he came back to the top of the golf world. Good luck to him for trying.

Oh don't get me wrong Monty, I have nothing but respect an d admiration for what Tiger has accomplished in the game we love. He is truly a player of a generation. You dont win 14 Majors if you're not special and I agree, at the time, he was in a class of his own.
What I do take issue with people who say the game is better when Tiger plays. I'm sure similar, if not the same, things were said when Nicklaus was at his peak (I wouldn't know I'm too young
). If this is the case when Tiger does retire, we're in for some really boring golf!

It was but then take one of those names out of the equation and it wasnt just as exciting neither.

I agree that golf BT was just as exciting. Each good player has something that I really admired. E.g. Faldos rebuilt swing, for me, was brilliant. I always remember (yes, only one shot I know) the 2 iron into the 13th at Augusta in the final round when duffing up Norman. The swing, the strike, the flight all class - inclduing the camera mans work!
To answer the post, its only one round and Tiger hasnt put 4 good rounds together for a while, as far as I know.
He may or may not be passed his best - who knows. But players like Mcilroy and Ishikowa are ready to take over as the new guard when Woods leaves the building and will provide the excitment going forward.

Rory, Kaymer, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Camilo Vilegas, Ryo Ishikawa to name but a few, mean I'm not at all worried about whether golf will be exciting in the post-Tiger era (which we may already be in to some degree...)
