Neither of them for me, see other post, if I could choose an option it would be bareable. for the record, i would have to go fine by me, but it could easily go the other way.

When exactly did Tiger elevate the game from an old mans game to a cool game? There have always been young exciting players on the scene through generations so I dont see how Tiger is anything special in that sense. I voted yes because of his ability, his comitment and his passion, Tiger has just been Lucky growing up in a media mad world rather than the more moderate media attention golf was used to in the past and he was guided and promoted by a number of people and organisations, maybe they should be in the vote :D.

I think freddie has a point to an extent, Tiger has made the game more interesting to the younger generation. Hell my 5yo daughter likes to watch when Tiger is on and my 12yo son idolises him.

If he wasnt and hadnt been around for the past 10 years or so, would our beloved game be in the position its in now with the current crop of players there is? I think not....

Tiger is the best thing...

Tiger WAS the best thing...

I'm on the fence with this too, sometimes he's a joy to watch, often he does the petulant moody thing too much.

Talking of grand slams etc is just daft now, the others have caught him up a lot, he's not streaks ahead as he once was. That was inevitable and he needs to accept that more graciously.

Where has the 'joie de vivre' gone with Tiger? The big smile? Nowadays the fist pumps are angry more than joyous.

We want the old Tiger back. :D

No no no no no !!!!!!!

Tiger is today's superstar. That is all.

Golf has been cool since day one. Different era's have different stars, some of whom are more important than others.

Hagen
Hogan
Palmer
Nicklaus
Ballesteros
Faldo

Are just a few names that spring to mind. There are probably many more that have been equally important over the years.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking today is more important than yesterday, just because it is now.

Tiger is needed today, because our media hyped world says so. Without Tiger there would be less money available. Although some may think too much money spoils the game, I think that all that money filters down to our level eventually.

With the boom in the 80s more courses were made. Nowadays club and ball developement is hugely improving all the time. That is down to money. And Tiger brings the $$$$

But is that Tiger or the Media frenzy around him that has acieved this, doesnt Rory offer the same?

Thats a trick question! lol

Tiger is excellent so creates the media frenzy, which then whips up more interest in the man himself, who in turn plays really good golf, which is then portrayed by the media....etc etc etc

Keef I understand what you say but isnt the popularity more to do with the massive media attention and corporate support he has, even down to the Tiger head cover that is something that attracts the eye of any kid or even just his name 'Tiger'?

I'd say its a bit of both, you cant dent that the media has helped him, along with the zillions of pounds spent on him to market their products, but at the same time...he is the best player in golf and everyone wants to watch and emulate the best.

The Media frenzy is because of Tiger it wouldn't be there without him -

And there was no frenzy around Seve ?

The frenzy around seve cannot be compared to today, the money in media coverage was nothing compared to Tigers era, nor was the technology or marketing capability of today.
One example......How many homes had the internet during seves era as compared to Tigers? There is an example of billions of difference for you. How many sports channels were there in europe during seves era.......need I go on?

Seve has probably had more coverage time recently than he has in his entire carreer. :D

If you want proof of Tigers importance we have just witnessed the best Masters for several years and all you are talking about is Tiger who played poorly and still finished top ten

I wouldnt say the best masters for several years, in fact this one didnt do much for me until the last day and maybe one or two individual rounds earlier on, the entire field wasnt all that impressive or pumped up, I dont think Tiger played poorly, maybe putted poorly for him but not playing poorly, Phil looked more impressive and exciting even with the odd poor shot. I will wager that not only in America but around the globe, Tiger will be covered more than Angel, now would this be Tiger being good for golf, or would it be a sign to everyone that its not worth the effort as Tiger gets all the plaudits even when he fails? :(

Anyone who enters anything but yes is dumb

Thank you for telling us all how we should think. Does your wisdom reach to other subjects?

To compare today's media to that of the 80s or even 90s is pointless. Sport as an industry piggy-backed on the global financial high and consequently, the media invested more money in its coverage etc. Golf was no different. Woods just happened to be at the right time. The coverage of Woods had he been around in the 80s would be massively different compared to now.

Not least of all because he wouldn't have won anywhere near as much with the other players of the time around and the equipment he would have had to use. In those days you couldn't club a course to death and rely on incredible spin from the rough...

Tiger didn't invent the internet. He can be compared with what is available in today's world. Seve got every bit as much coverage % wise using the madia that were available at that time.

So, yes they can be compared.

I said it before. Today isn't more important than yesterday, it's just more recent.
