Does anyone find the non-golfing world coverage (e.g. BBC News) a bit disrespectful of the rest of the leaders? Listening to the headlines this morning you'd be hard pushed to know that Couples was leading & Watson tied second, let alone that a couple of Brits were up there.

It's the same as the John Terry thing, the "News" press aren't interested in football or golf, they're interested in gossip. Tiger Woods is gossip and makes headlines for all those people who don't appreciate golf. Most of those people probably wouldn't know what was so special about Watson and Couples being up the top and probably haven't heard of Poulter, Westwood or Casey. To the BBC and other "News" agencies, if no-one knows who it is, it ain't news. That's just the way of the world.

What do you honestly expect?
Tiger's conduct has made all the front pages let alone the back ones. It's a huge news story to those interested in it - and that's millions. It would have been all about him even if he hadn't played away.
Personally I couldn't give a flyer about what he's done but there are shed-loads who do and that makes it big news.
In principle its the same as Jordan. Millions want to know what's going on - that's why she's always in the papers or on TV. We may not be interested but enough are to make it worth the media circus.

The only confusing thing I'd heard on several news outlets was in answer to the question "..and what was Tigers response to the pressure, and 5 month layoff? The best first round score in the Masters EVER"... What they actually meant was "HIS best first round score in the Masters EVER"...

what did he say? ^^^

I think its being overplayed a little now, the competition has started so it should go back to the leaderboard and wooden spooners.

Perhaps they are interested in the biggest sports story in the world at the moment, rather than some old guys made a decent start.

Hang on, hang on, so the Worlds No 1 hasnt played any Tournaments for 5mths, although probably has been practising hard for a month, comes back, and shoots a 68. Hardly surprising ?

Or, 2 of the game's 'Greats', both Veterans of the game, and HUGELY admired/respected and loved Worldwide, play their best rounds for years, particularly at the Masters.

I know which is the bigger story Golf -wise.......??

I know TW was 'engaging with the crowds' more supposedly, but he's got a helluva long way to go before he's as well 'liked' as Freddie & Tom.

I think most of us do believe it to be very surprising that Tiger's out of the blocks so quickly. Almost all in the know have been saying how rusty he would be, the swing wouldn't be there, the head's messed up, but he's come back, in form and 2 shots off the pace after his best 1st round ever at Augusta.
Much as I like Tom and Freddie and think they should be the headline act, it just ain't gonna happen. Golfwise you're right. The two oldies are the story. But to the waiting millions who only want to see if Tiger falls flat or climbs high, nothing else is going to come close.

He knew it didn't matter what anyone else did this week, he knew his return to the game would be the main headline.
Another coniving tactic from the new humble Tiger.

I dont think the rusty bit is valid as he has been spotted practicing and exercising for weeks, If anything, he is fresher than most playing this week.

Sorry but the old guys leading doesnt become a story until Sunday, anyone could lead after one lap it doesn't mean they will be anywhere near at the end, the best golfer in the world making his return and looking very good, is the bigger story at the moment.
