If tiger woods keeps playing how his playing then do you think when he dies he would be thought of as the greatest player of all time ?

I'm 99% sure he will.

I'm 99% sure he wont, not at his current level!

He's a shadow of his former self, the ability is still there for all to see in flashes, with the odd bit of brilliance here & there but the mental side of his game has diminished in so far as other players dont fear him now.

If he carries on as he is now, he will dissappear without a whim over the next few year, probably retiring before he drops out of the top 200 or so.

I cant see him being happy being a 'journeyman', can you?

nope.... same a Michael Schumacher 7 time World Champion but can now hardly do a lap without taking someone out and is killing his legasy, if Tiger keeps going as he is he will do the same... Not that I want that to happen, but I think it will if he does not find a more consistant form and life ballance.

He was on course to be the greatest but has fallen short whether he can get back on track is very debatable obviously the ability is still there but only in flashes and he has also let himself down with his on course behaviour most of us would be called before the committee for continued on course tantrums.

Whilst I consider Tiger to be one of the greatest - as Aztecs says the greatest for me has to be Jack, when you compare their respective major records there is only one real winner.

Tiger 14 wins, 6 runners up and 3 3rd places.

Jack 18 wins, 19 runners up and 9 3rd places.

That to me says it all.

Records aren't so easy to compare when you have such different levels of competition.

Were the fields in Jack's day anywhere near as "deep" as they have been in Tiger's era?

What what tiger has done for the game ? All his publicity attracts more players to the game
Every person in the knows who tiger is even if they have never picked up a golf club.

Sorry big Jack no question. It not just what they do on the course. But how they also behave as a person. Not like something that has just crawled from under a stone.

That just means he is the most well known not that he is the greatest player. In his day Arnold Palmer turned golf from being a sport with an active but relatively small following to a sport which had increasing coverage in the media due to television exposure - older forummers will remember Arnies army as his fans were referred to.

Each player has there own merits and could only beat what was put in front of them - as opposed to thinking that Tiger has it tougher with the fields he beats I am more of the opinion that it was more difficult to achieve that kind of dominance using inferior equipment to todays - the players are only less well known due to the difference in media coverage between the 60's and 70's and now. - let's face it how many of us would have known of Kevin Na if he played in the 60's and 70's.

Probably true over the last 10 or so years.

I think people get too caught up in the "now" and forget what has been.

Take other sports. People say Messi is the greatest footballer ever, but forget the likes of Pele, Maradonna, Cruyff etc.

Usain Bolt is the best spinter ever, yet forget Carl Lewis.

Yes, Tiger is probably, arguably the best player in recent memory, but Jack will always get my vote as the greatest ever.

oh yes, Tiger has done a lot for the game of golf but both good and bad...

This is a weak argument, because Jack and Arnold (and others) bought golf to the masses and increased it's popularity massively in a time when media and technology wasn't "worldwide" and there was no internet. This was no mean feat.

Tiger has done a lot for golf, yes, but has increased his own profile and the popularity of the sport with a lot of help from modern media (internet, worldwide tv broadcasting etc...)

It will be difficult to shake the tiger of the 90s and early 2000s from people memories, his incredible dominance and magic shot making came at a time when no one else was at the same level. Now everyone has caught up a bit and he will find it hard to be so dominant, even at his best!
