As the title suggest, this may seem like a daft question, but is the grass on the green a different type than the grass on or the fairway, or is it the same type of grass that is just cut differently and with a different base etc??

It'll depend on where your course is and what sort of budget they have and all sorts of other factors.

Different grasses suit different conditions, temperature, soil type etc.

How non comital is that??!! Should be a politician me. :D

We had a letter from our club last week explaining certain things about the course's condition this year.

Part of it went on about using different types of grass seed in an effort to try to make them faster.

One was fescue, can't remember the other.

Greens take so much looking after I wouldn't have thought they'd use the same on the fairways, although I'm ready to be proved wrong. I thought fairways were just the same grass as you'd find on your lawn.

The grass on most greens are either fescues or bent grasses(more suited to low cuts). The grasses on the fairways and tees are a more durable grass like perennial rye grass or smooth stalked meadow grass which grow more rapidly and grow more sideways so it knits together. You can have any grass really as theres like +20,000 different species so you could find something of use for each part of the course. :)
