Allegedly, when operating at 80k feet, the pressure shrunk the whole plane by a few inches, tightened every joint and panel fit too. This meant that at ground level the plane was in danger of literally falling apart, the fuel tanks leaked and the rattles were frightening. But at 80k feet it was sooo smooth.
No pressure up there my friend, it was actually the heat caused by friction that made the aircraft around 9 inches longer! The aircraft was designed to fly fast and high therefore when it was on the ground she used to leak like a £2 kebab!
Sorry, bit nerdy but this was always my favourite aircraft. Who could not love flying at a mile every three seconds?!?!?
