This is why the Forum is good.

This is the best chipping tip I have ever seen. Just pull the handle of the club towards your left hip as you follow though. After a lifetime of rubbish chipping, I chipped pretty much like a pro today and made a number of up and downs. No fluffs, skulls, or shanks. Fantastic, and thanks to the guy who posted it! :)

Not convinced this is the best chipping tip but if it makes you score better then crack on. Personally I'll stick to the linear method but each to their own.

My issues remain the same. I need to nail my colours to one particular short game mast, traditional or linear and commit. However with both having plus and minus points at the moment (linear pitching worse than traditional, linear and traditional chipping both working, although traditional the better) I'm confused. Where do I go?

So the confusion endeth here?

It probably cures a problem I have always had, which is trying to make the my hands and club head follow down the line. I have also been a bit prone to shanking chip shots, but this tip seems to fix that! :)

Sorry must have missed your post in the "I played today thread" what was your score you must have had a good round.

YEP and with a Gary Smith lesson to come it's all good

I had a lesson with Gary early last year. He teaches a very 'different' method, it wasn't to my liking but obviously works for some people. Good luck

Assume you're referring to the linear method. I've had some success with chipping but pitching is more of an issue at the moment

Not sure what the different methods are called but Gary teaches a big wrist break and aggressive right hand sliding under the ball with quite a full turn. Get it right and it's great, get it wrong and you will knife it 200 yards

I scored a gross 90 for 30 points off the white tees, which wasn't too bad in the conditions. Didn't have a lot of luck on the greens, with several good looking putts lipping out or stopping right on the edge! I made 4 up and downs, but it could have been 10! :(

The problem when you are pitching like this is that you may be releasing the head too fast as you will be putting more speed into a pitch than you would when hitting a shorter chip. Knifesville as drive4show says.

Clubhead overtakes the hands too much slamming the leading edge into the ball and its good night.

Another perfect example of how to play a little short pitch shot.

This is probably my favourite shot in golf. I could stand and hit this shot all day long. Low trajectory, two hops and spin kicks in. soft greens are the perfect time to play this so go out and enjoy this while you can. In the summer it won't stop on a six pence. In winter it will. This is why I will always play a soft ball, even in winter.

I play it a little different. I stand a touch open, blade a touch open and swing a little steep driving the bottom groove down into the back of the ball. Spins a touch to the right due to the slightly out to in steep path.

Tip. Need a nice clean lie. This time of year you can take advantage of the lift and place.
