This is so frustrating...

Thanks, for 6 quid in can't hurt can it?

I'd say not if you just focus on one or two specific things relevant to you. For example you may not need to worry about using a club to get to the back of the green (as discussed on here earlier), if so then ignore it. That's been a great thing for me, but it's horses for courses.

It may well not help if someone tries to remember/implement 5 or 6 different things at the same time, plus the inevitable swing thoughts that should be banished. Actually using some of the stuff in NGT has meant I think less, sometimes no swing thoughts, and my game has improved.

Try and keep it simple stupid as they say.

I don't think it's any of those TBH but maybe it is. I'll try an go through Saturday's round again later and see what I can come up with.

While I will often have a swear at myself if I do something stupid I'm not normally over emotional on the inside. I can accept mistakes as mistakes and know I'm playing well so forget it so I don't think they have a bearing on my next shot.

Maybe I'm just not being honest enough with myself?

Maybe. Or maybe just a lack of focus at times. Perhaps a trigger a la the red dot Louis O uses/used to get your mind truly into focus. Can't hurt to look at the NGT or similar mental techniques although doesn't sound like you're a basket case on the course ;)

are you not forgetting that you are a handicap golfer and are going to make the odd mistake, if you could hit every shot perfect every time, you would be on the European or PGA tour?;)

I did kind of think the same and perhaps being way too hard on yourself...

I guess it depends on whether you consider it a mental error or just hitting a bad shot? Was it a bad shot because you weren't concentrating and forgot to take account if the lie for instance ball below your feet etc?

That's true. I can accept hitting a bad shot IF I know the planning was correct, and then go easy on myself :-)

They're just bad shots, i never lose focus or concentration, my bad shots just seem to be particularly bad which is what is frustrating.

Is there a (more often than not trend) to the bad shots? Is the OB a sudden unexpected slice, the missed green a pull or push, or the missed putts long/short or line...

They are normally shots I don't usually hit. Saturday's came right out of the heel with a 5W, I never do that (well, rarely anyway)

Hmmm. I get the frustration as it's a "where the flip did that come from" moment and they can be disconcerting for sure. Perhaps what you're experiencing is more the norm than you think at our level. Those days where it all comes and stays together are rare beauties and in between we have rounds where it's a thing of beauty followed by something rather ugly...

If it was a one off then I could accept it but it has been the last 4 or 5 rounds this year and several at the back end of last year. I must be contributing to it somehow, it happens too often to be one of those things.

Could it be as simple as a slide in form at the back end of last year when the poor shots became more prevalent? Started this year in a similar fashion so when it's all garbage (your words not mine!) the poor shots just get more blurred somehow. You're on the return to form and on the cusp of playing really well with consistency and it's a matter of time before you eradicate the poor shots - or at least your bad ones aren't shockers which kill the score?
