On the way back from golf today we stopped in at what is normally a very good and knowledgeable pro shop and somehow got on the subject of hes current r11/burner stock in drivers and fairways, i asked him when he was expecting the RBZ/Rocketballs stock in and the pro had a very vacant looks on hes face... after about 15 mins he was convinced i was on a wind up about the new TM offering...

i had to google it for him and show him what TM had planned to which he replied " that explains whyy tm have just dumped more r11/burner stock on me cheap then "

I felt for the guy as he had no idea that a new model was due out, but is did raise an interesting thought. If your in the trade how can you be so oblivious to new products coming out especially if your a stockist for that brand.

Pro shops are not the first link in the sales chain so why would he know yet, golf club releases seem to be fairly fast occurring events unlike cars where you have a years worth of concepts etc.

but surely product knowledge for new releases is a vital part of running a suucessfull pro shop...

True but as most small pro shops are reliant on company reps who won't have the gear to demo or preview yet and so won't be able to match interest with a product to show. Even those attached to larger buying organisations (Foremost) and larger empires like AG may have had the info and possibly reputed RRP and launch dates but again won't have access to anything other than an e-mail and maybe a pic or two. In likelihood the reps probably don't know anything yet anyway. For most, the first appearance will be in the TM/Adidas 2012 brochure update.

tm to me update far to regular, so your new r11 what go may have got a couple a months ago or as a xmas present loses to much value far to quick

to be fair, callaway dont seem to be too shy about releasing new models. one new model a year is to be expected i think the confusion comes from when different ranges get updated. for example burner TM always have offered 2 drivers/woods series, the R range, R5, R7, R9. R11 and the burners... the problem is this year TM rebranded the r range with the r11, and the burner range with the superfast2

Next year by the sounds of it the RBZ/Rocketballs is going to be replacing the superfast, which hasnt changed much since the 09 black burner range to be fair,

Taylormade do not update far too regularly. They spend so much time, effort and money into new technologies that they will coem out with something new every year. That is how they have made their name in the game. You do not have to buy the latest piece they bring out. Why does it matter if your R11 looses money too quickly. Are you looking at offloading it before you actually use it?

Exactly MA, i purchased my 09 burner in 2010 when the new superfast had come out, reduced from £199 to £129, almost 2 full years on my club is still £89.00 new in AG, so given the fact of use etc, and the fact there is two new models ahead of it, it hasnt really lost much at all.

With pro shops im certain whoever the pro is affilated to will have a bearing.

Most pros do get support from speciific manufacturers, our pro shop like every shop can get anything to order but generally stocks Titleist for equipment and always has a demo in stock, Footjoy and Nike for shoes and Nike for most clothing but does have a range of jerseys and other manufacturer polos.

they no alot of people want the best and newest model out there on the market and thats the people they aim it at, myself yes i would want the latest model on the market not something what prob is as good but 2 yrs older

I disagree to a point. The basic models aren't changed but they do add other specs into the range at times which gives it that appearance smaller head etc). In the end its about personal choice and if you want the latest gear then accept that like a new car once you take it out of the shop its gone down appreciably in value and a new version will usurp it
