Off to Bristol tomorrow to see my mate Fish. Planning to get there early and staying overnight so need some ideas on what HID and I can do around central Bristol and some good places to eat and drink

What type of food would you be looking for? Loads of good options in Bristol
Fairly easy (except fish as HID allergic) but maybe a good cafe type place for lunch and somewhere to get an early table so we can get in and out by about 7.30

cafe revival in the centre is great. If you wanted something more substantial at lunch three brother burgers offers a really good lunch deal. Burger and chips for £5.
On the evening there are so many good options. Some good budget options, some really high end. Chomp would be a great option if you wanted a steak (they also do the best burger in Bristol if you don't go three brothers for lunch) or there's steak of the art. The new cargo set up in wrapping wharf has endless options too.

there is a new Brunel Museum opening in the summer which will be well worth seeing.
Also take a bus to the Clifton Suspension Bridge, its quite a sight

Brilliant. I know HID had seen some stuff on the thriving foodie bits in Bristol and was keen to try it out. Actually staying at the Berkeley Square Hotel and some decent stuff on their Square Club restaurant menu but wanted to see what is out there.

I'll tell you if he's exotic smelling when I see him tomorrow. The tour bus on the last tour was certainly a nasal experience. Looking forward to catching up with him

The square bar/kitchen is pretty good tbh. It might even be worth downloading an app called wriggle. It's based in Bristol and offers discounts on loads of different independent food places, will show you loads of good options.

Any other help you need just let me know. I might not be able to help out with sightseeing but I eat out most nights so have endless good suggestions for that

The Dock area is worth looking around and especially the SS Great Britain. A walk up Park street from there and visit the City Museum. Shopping at Cabot Circus and in the evening go to King Street and the 'Old Duke' for some Jazz, a few beers in the llandogger Trow and Naval Volunteer.

Some great ‘street food’ stalls in the old market if that is your thing.
The new Aerospace Bristol museum is also worth a look but would need a bus ride as it is out on the old Filton airfield. They have Concorde there which you can go on.

All very good suggestions...The Old Duke is great for jazz. If you have time and buildings are of interest, I would recommend having a quick look inside St Mary Redcliffe - an astonishing example of English Gothic architecture with parts dating back to the 12th century - and apparently the largest church in England.

Busy, busy, busy. Got there early and HID indulged her shopping habit. She wanted lunch at a chain (Giraffe) as it was at the shopping centre. She didn't want to do the docks so I had a mooch on my own and she checked out the German Christmas market. Apparently despite, a big lunch, the bratwurst was to die for. Check in at the hotel, quick bite in a pub we found near the hotel and off to the O2 Academy early to grab a word backstage with the main man and the band, round the front a great view front and centre and treated to the unit on arguably the best form musically I've seen, despite the news his beloved Hibs had got beat.
Leisurely breakfast and hit a couple of antique stores recommended to us on the way out of town. Fun morning mooching, a nice coffee and cake and back in time for a late lunch and home. Knackered. Thanks to all the advice. It's a place we'll be going back to, probably at a weekend as there's loads we could do
