Things That Gladden The Heart

Classic ex miner 😂😂
Years of practice, 😖 when you have Vibration white finger, noise induced hearing loss, COPD, Knackered knees and so on,it seemed at times life was spent filling in forms.
True story, back in the old days of self certification of “ club notes” where you dropped off work due to illness or injury. I remember having to fill one in having been off work with a sprained ankle from working underground. I had never seen a club note before. One of the older guys who worked with said “ if you go in the welfare, you will see dave in the far right hand corner with a green lumbar Jack coat on. He will help fill it in for you. He charges a pint”. 😳

Entitlement, sadly there is far too much of that in modern Britain. 😫

I don’t disagree with that. Equally, the language used around pensions in recent years is questionable. You pay in for almost 50 years to receive something that is close on half the minimum wage.

The spin around minimum wage is let’s call it a “liveable wage,” a “working wage.” But the spin around pensions is let’s call it a “benefit.”

It’s not a benefit. You paid in to it for close on 50 years, and you’re entitled to it. Why is it so low? People starve but vanity projects, like a garden bridge, are funded. People live in substandard housing but £1m is spent on a statue.

There’s no glamour in saying we took 5 people off the streets but there’s glamour in saying I helped fund planting 5,000 pansies in the flower beds in the town…

Apologies, rant over…. And breathe 2,3,4…

Amen to that, but there is a massive difference between paying in and getting out. And contributing and being entitled to everything.

What you both say is correct, and that is the original definition of Entitlement, but the meaning of Entitlement has changed. (Like Gay, Slut, and Woke) If you put the word Entitled into Google AI (other MechaHitlers are available) it brings up this…

A sense of entitlement is the belief that one deserves special treatment, privileges, or benefits without necessarily having earned them. It can manifest as an expectation that others should cater to one's needs without reciprocation or feeling resentful when things don't go one's way. This can lead to strained relationships, lack of empathy, and difficulty in personal growth.

Key Aspects of Entitlement:
    • Feeling of Deservingness:
Individuals with a sense of entitlement believe they are inherently entitled to certain things, often without putting in the necessary effort or demonstrating merit.
    • Expectation of Special Treatment:
They expect preferential treatment, resources, or consideration that others may not receive.
    • Lack of Gratitude and Reciprocity:
Entitled individuals often fail to appreciate what they receive and may not be inclined to give back in return.

This didn't gladden our hearts but did warm our cockles out of sympathy.
We recently held our Senior's Open which is always fully subscribed with guests from afar.
I was manning the halfway house, with others, on a scorching day with greens running like glass.
A lone golfer appeared at a nearby tee looking befuddled and having walked the wrong way up the fairway. He asked "How do I get off the course?"
We explained and asked if he was ok.
He replied "I'm fine. My golf is really ill" and wandered off .
Soon after two golfers holed out and came over. I asked where the third player was. They said he walked off but we think he went the wrong way.
So this was our man.
We asked why he walked off and they said "Poor bugger had 3 points after 9 holes"
He was off 14.
😢
Imagine looking forward to an away day with your mates for weeks and then having the experience we've all had - a run of games in which you start to believe you're gifted, followed by a game in which you look like you've had your spine removed.
Poor sod.😞

Two weeks off and 118 emails, not too bad at all. Delete half them, and pretend I never received the other half.
I always do emails the night before going back or I barely sleep.
When I worked, 18 years back, major financial institution, I'd scan my emails daily and rank them - delete, save and print off the "important" ones to consider later. They'd go in my briefcase.
Every week or so I'd empty my briefcase, assess the emails and ask "What are the consequences of not responding?"
Answer: generally none.
Result: shred most of them.

Cheers Sid, just off to buy a briefcase.

Entitlement is probably the wrong word I used, but it is a more and more used word that easily slips off the tongue. Probably the correct word is qualify. 👍

The truth is that our NI contributions paid the pensions of the pensioners of the time…we weren’t paying into a pot to fund our future pensions…for that we needed future payers of NI to pay sufficient to fund our pensions. That’s why we need as many folks as possible paying NI at this time, as it is they who fund our pensions.

Last Tuesday morning totally wrenched my shoulder playing bowls, in a lot of pain and thought my season was over
This morning played my best bowls ever and into the gents semi finals.
Sometimes your body is a strange thing.
Was thinking of taking up Bowls, but not now did not know how dangerous it is.:)
